Well I fell off the wagon once this week and bought a sandwich/wrap at work for £2.80. I forgot to defrost some soup the day before and didn't have anything to take other than crisps and fruit. So I took that in and just bought a sandwich. Oh well, never mind. But I have managed to take it in the rest of the time.

This week I shall be making pea and mint soup (just bought some fresh mint from the reduced section in Asda). Weight watchers bread was also reduced so I shall be puting a slice of that with it and a weightwatchers yogurt. So my whole meal will be a lovely 2 weightwatchers points!!
  • Thank you to the people on here who mention food flasks - I have treated myself to one and have made minestrone soup to take to work tomorrow. It also means I can take curry, pasta etc which is great because I try to avoid eating too much bread so I should be able to save money and stick to my diet.

I got the food flask in Home Bargains and it was £5.99 if anyone is interested.

    Thanks again.
    xxx

    Hi everyone,

I'm a bit of a lurker, I only really get round to posting when I am meant to be doing my Open University study (guess what I should be doing now :rotfl: :rotfl:)

I've been quite good so far this year, taken lunches every day so far and I have only "topped up" once with a chocolate bar which is good going for me!

I tend to take Cheese and crackers and a bag of cherry toms and cucumber sticks and grapes for my lunches on a couple of days.

For a couple of the others I often make a cold rice salad, usually 2 or 3 days worth made at the same time:

Boil basmati rice then cool quickly by rinsing thoroughly with cold water and whacking it in the fridge as soon as possible (I'm extra careful with rice as surprisingly high potential for food poisoning if not cooled quickly) then I add either:

Tin of tuna, diced cucumber and pepper, halved cherry toms and a bit of sweetcorn with a good few grinds of pepper and a slug of salad cream to mix it together or

Cooked sliced chicken, halved grapes, spring onions and segments of orange and mix with orange juice and balsamic vinegar & seasoning.

With all the options above I tend to take a banana, an apple/pear and a fun size choc bar for snacks, I try to bring one of those snacks home with me to re-use the next day, but if I don't take three I find I fall off the not buying anything wagon just about every time:rotfl:

Good afternoon my fellow LTWers

Shortie mince pies can always be made available if you know the right people :rotfl:

SanFran I had a quick shufty at AF last night and they do have some good offers on some things like the porridge you mentioned :T, you just have to watch with other things and be mindful of the postage costs.

AFK, I just don't know what to say you truly have left me speechless! :T:dance: You have done really well and it just goes to show how much you can save yourself by not eating take aways and convenience foods. You are the **star of the week**, not just because of the amount of savings but because of the lifestyle change. You should be really pleased with yourself. :j

vics don't worry about the blip it is not a problem and it's only half a blip because you did take other items so it's not as bad as it could have been. Well done on the rest of the week and the week to come :T

Hi tryingtocutback  please let us know how your food flask performs as I am thinking of getting a larger one. Does yours have its own bowl on the top because mine doesn't. Let us know how you get on :)

Hi and welcome barnsleylass  yes keep up the LTW you've made a really good start :T please keep letting us know how you're getting on.

Welcome also to SOT :hello: - a fellow OU student yay :T - thanks for the rice ideas and very well done on your LTW for the year to date (YTD). Keep it up :j

Excellent everyone, give yourselves a big clap :T :T

The chicken with pesto mayo has gone out of the window this week as we're not having a roast today so no leftover chicken :( The vegetable samosas got eaten for brunch today so next week I have possibly the unhealthiest lunches ever planned, which is:

Chicken and mushroom pot noodles (half price for a 4-pack) :o

I shall redeem myself a little by making home made banana loaf to go with it though :rotfl:

Pot noodles don't arrive until MOnday evening so Monday will be the last of the cheese in a toastie.
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10
  • Oh wow thanks Kittie, don't think I deserve the star of the week tbh though :)

I just shouldn't have gotten in the mess I did with takeaways is all and then taken like 2 years to get it sorted out!!! But they are so easy to get and tbh I was probably addicted to them too, but that's still no excuse.

Really amazed I have kept to it tbh as there has been a couple of evenings when I have been sourly tempted to grab the phone and order in a takeaway!!

Resisted the dreaded burger king today as well and had one of the beef hotpots I had in the freezer :)

So good luck everyone with next week, there are some yummy lunches being planned :)

Aww FatVon, never mind just think of the money you will save. Maybe the chicken and pesto mayo will happen the week after eh?

AFK - I agree about the addiction thing, there must be something in these take aways hooking us all in. Are you saying the take aways addiction got you into debt? That is quite interesting if it is the case.

  • Well all the debt I have is some money I ow to my dad but I can comfortably handle that and I am in no difficulty money wise. But I got a new house a year ago (hence the reason for coming on this forum) and there are lots of things I would like to do to the house that cost quite a bit of money. And I knew I was spending lots on takeaways but never really thought how much money that is!! So these savings will go towards the house after paying my dad off :)

Hi, I've only just started reading this thread but I saw a couple of people have mentioned coronation chicken, I just mix mango chutney, mayo and some curry powder then add to chicken and pasta or bread. Although my store cupboard doesn't quite have curry powder yet so when I cooked my chicken I put some chilli flakes on it for a bit of spice. It's the easiest recipe I've found and it tastes pretty good too.
Something else I keep meaning to try is using a plain omelette like a wrap, so you make an omelette but instead of folding it over you leave it flat then let it cool then put your fillings in and roll it up. I'm trying to get organised now for lunches for this week
