ahhh, adult children debbiedebt. Ours are all 40 or almost and when I think back to the hours I spent worrying and not sleeping , it takes positive determination to stand back and let them learn for themselves

Its` been a fairly busy morning but several good positives:

2 new cotton nighties arrived and they fit :)

something else used from the freezer plus preserved food, so stores very slowly being used. Including sprouted alfalfa seeds, so good for you esp at this mid winter time. They sprout in 3 days, see nature wants to give a helping hand

a whole pack of aquadulce broad bean seeds have been soaked and now sown. Also a tray of little gem lettuce

    rhubarb is growing already

I shall knit this afternoon and relax, happily knowing that I have added some positives to my day

I realised I had worked out my calculations for the mortgage overpayments wrongly earlier.

I am trying to put a positive spin on this, I am fortunate enough that I am in a position to make overpayments in the first place.:T

I also woke up at 4 this morning as the dog wanted to go outside and I was trying to get back to sleep but I felt all achy and tired so I did a mindfulness exercise to try to relax and it worked and I fell asleep.:)
  • It is really lovely seeing all the positive attitude in this thread. Just to add to what people have said about reading funny cards if you are feeling low etc, for a while now i have written a GTOTD - good thought of the day - every day. It can be as little as possible but something that made you smile. Then you can look back at all these things and the happy feelings come flooding back.

On an aside, i have found a really good show on Radio 4 called the infinite monkey cage, which i am now listening to on my ipod on the way to work. I'm sure people may look at me oddly as i burst out laughing, but i don't care!

I expect they were quite relieved really - there's nothing worse than the feeling of obligation to buy a present because someone has bought you one. I taught my DD1 this a few years ago when buying Christmas presents for all her friends was getting out of hand (all having to be funded by me ) I suggested a Secret Santa to her, and that's what they do. It's much cheaper for me too (she doesn't yet have a job and doesn't get pocket money)

Good luck. I've been through that myself and I won't kid you, it's not a pleasant experience, but you'll feel much better afterwards. I had to keep halving my dose until I was on literally a crumb. Even coming off that tiny bit wasn't nice. I'm sending positive vibes to you and a :grouphug:

    Thanks hon xx

I would love to only buy for my children - I am very tempted to speak to people in this post christmas lull, it can get very silly & we have godparents children, aunts & uncles etc that we hardly see, might discuss it with the hubby

Hi Chums well I need every bit of positivity tonight as my youngest DD came home from work having been made redundant as her firm is going to the wall. Not the greatest start to New Year especially as she has four growing lads to feed her OHs money only covers the bills and her money covers the boys and food etc.Still, I left her filling online applications about half an hour ago and she's not one to sit still and mope she will find work some how.She will do anything at all to feed her tribe bless her and I will obviously be there to help her out if I can.Bloody recession is getting worse I don't care what the politicians say
    Onwards and upwards chums

Sorry to learn about your daughter being made redundant, JackieO.

I do hope that something soon turns up for her. I'm sure that your continued support will be most appreciated, even more so in these super-tough times.

So my positives today - had dinner with hubby AND daughter (we all work different shifts so doesnt happen often)

Also put the second coat on the bathroom ceiling and the tiles round the bath (cant afford to rip it all out so refreshing :)) Will say tile paint is like glossing so not enjoying it but the end result is getting there :)

Oh and daughter leaned on the wet paint in her new dressing gown and it washed off as its emulsion - result!

I have decided to change my attitude and try and be more positive and see if it makes a difference. So far so good, getting along better with dh and ds's.

Also going to make more plans to do things with my free time, not necessarily expensive things, but things to look forward to as well. I have just booked a weekend away for dh birthday in March, after seeing the £59 eurostar deal on this website, now to find a nice hotel and start saving perhaps ebaying some things to pay for it. I also want to declutter my wardrobe and do more sewing.

I think I have listed enough for now. I've already started my sistercas fund for next christmas at a £1 per day but I'm hoping to try and do £2 most days. Anything is a bonus.

My favourite thing of today was the lovely chicken curry I made for dinner, both ds's loved it and asked for more.

thanks Jackie for starting this thread, it has been lovely to read and has really made me think what small things I can do.

Was feeling a little :( today as my sister and her family are flying home to Oz. We plan to go over to visit them in 2014 so money I raised eBaying last is being saved for that. I sat down this evening and set myself a new target to raise this year which has made me feel much more positive. I am taking control of the situation and will not feel down!!
