I’m really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience when you saw a counsellor before. I think it can be a bit hit and miss when it comes to counselling and I think finding the right person is very important.
Personally I think the psychological aspect of losing weight is the hardest thing. Losing weight sounds simple (eat less cr*p, eat more healthy food and move more) but it’s not. I have this annoying thing called my mind which throws unhelpful thoughts and feelings my way. And when that happens I comfort myself with food. Because I have an all or nothing attitude I then feel as though I’ve fallen off the wagon. That then means that I binge eat on the foods that I consider to be “bad” and put on some more weight before I get back on the wagon and start again. It’s such a vicious cycle.
I’m only a few weeks into slimming world and so far I’ve not had a slip. I know it’s going to happen at some point though so I’m trying to prepare myself so that I don’t slip into my old habits of comfort eating everything in sight. The things I know I’ll need to remind myself when the time comes are:
- The scales are not the most accurate indicator of weight loss. My weight fluctuates daily (even hourly) so I may be weighing on a heavy day.
- Weight loss should not be considered the only victory. The scales might not have moved (or might have gone the wrong way) but maybe I’ve lost inches or my clothes feel looser etc.
- I’ve changed my habits for the better. Before doing SW I rarely did food shopping and therefore lived off takeaways and junk. Now I’m organised and I plan my week. I work out what I’m likely to eat, I go food shopping, I batch cook at the weekends and I prepare meals rather than ordering them. For me that is a massive change and an achievement in itself. So if one week I do everything right but don’t lose weight I can celebrate my new good habit.
I also try not to focus too much on the things that should be my motivators as I find these are really easy to flip and turn into de-motivators. Like wise I’m not good with setting weight loss targets. The amount of times I’ve gone off the deep end as I feel that I should have hit that next target but didn’t quite make it. It makes me feel down and I start to comfort eat and binge.
This is a great post thank you Fannyanna, just how I feel. I am not good at setting the weight goals either, always fail at them and think: Oh well and start eating. Now I am going to change the approach and think, just day by day. If it turns out to be a bad day, so be it, tomorrow will be so much better.0 -

Very interesting post swiper. I got a little bit lost, but I am only a thickie frog, but essentially what you said was extremely possitive and made sense to me. My question is "Does the plan really work" I really really want that answer to be a yes. I'm just not sure that eating the amount I did on Monday ( a few posts back) is likely to give me a loss.
I'm frightened. I want to be able to eat like I did last week, and lose weight. The plan says you can. My head and the scales said I couldn't.
Now going to bed after a good day. Lots of possitives today after a stressy day yesterday where I lost all control. Mainly because of the support I've had on here. SO thankyou all very very much xxxSay it once, say it loud ~ I'm an Atheist, Anti-Royalist, Socialist, Tea-Total Veggie Frog and PROUD!:D

Good evening guys, hope your all well.
Day 3
Breakfast - Porridge (28g oats HEB/150ml semi milk HEA) with mixed forest berries.
Lunch - Slice wholemeal toast (3 syns as already used HEB), 2 slices grilled bacon, 2 poached eggs, beans & mushrooms. Apple & pear.
Dinner - Vegetable curry (onions, potato, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, peas & sweetcorn with rice, actifry chips made using frylight, 2 poppadoms cooked with frylight (3 syns)
Snacks - Lemon Muller fat free greek yoghurt (0.5 syns), plum & satsuma.
Ladies can I just ask if anyone else feels starving constantly despite eating more than you usually would? I'm wondering if it's a side effect of my metabolism starting to work again as I never usually eat breakfast or lunch. I used to eat nothing all day have my dinner then pick all night.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

And tonight at WI...I maintained! So surprised!
Went round to Grandma's later than planned (after WI rather than before) and naughtily indulged in cake and a glass of sparkling wineIt's ok though - got job interviews on Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday! So will be being busy busy busy and super good on those days!
Hmm will think about the plan for tomorrow and post it in the morning************************************

Hi, can I join you please need to lose 2stone by July, thinking of joining slimming world on line, doing it at home at the moment with the books that I got when I joined a group 2 years ago. Can't go to group at the moment as I have to look after my mother who had a bad fall before christmas and broke her hip hence an emergency hip operation. Learning things already here though I didn't know you could use frylight in the actifry that will save me some syns thanks Breast Cancer Survivor thats great.0
