LOVE this idea! I think I am going to steal it! Then I can still look at the pretty clothes and dream about the day when I may be able to afford to shop a bit more again (although not to the extremes that I have done in the past)

    Congrats on your ebay sales!

it is what i do too, i have my "fantasy list" lol and i scare myself by totalling up the cost if i bought htem all and mmentally reward myself for not buying them
My sister is a COMPLETE shopaholic.
I checked out my shoes and saw that quite a few pairs need heeling, which always seems really expensive. Was thinking about doing it myself, has anyone done this? Had any success? or is it just better to go to the cobblers and take the cost on the chin?

good haul! if the shoes are very commfy and you wear them enough then yes it is worth re cobbling. i have sometimes resoled things at a rpice more expensive than the shoes but i am not going to able to get them again and they are my staples.

I sold my Nintendo DS Lite! It fetched £33!!! Whohooooooo:j:j:j:j

ok, another idea I had last year which worked well.

Tip 2 Use your work and party dresses interchangeably. So party dress to work and work dress to party if it makes any sense. If the dress is too short wear it with long cardigan or very dark tights and flats. Similarly if work dress is too conservative then either accessorise it well or wear with sky high heels. I now find more things to wear to work and for going out.

citizenkitten Good thinking about satchels :D Very good argument of not buying one.

squinky I do not have many thinks, I would say few and good. I did not used to shop on high street hence do not have loads of stuff. My wardrobe is 80% monocrome 15% jewel colours 5% casuals. I frequently wear my partners hoody at home during winter :D

    miss empty piggy Whoaaaa!!! Congratulations!

I love this idea, I think that I will give it a try tomorrow. I have a dress that I have never worn as it makes my chest look enormous, but think if I pair it with long cardy, tights and flats I could cover them to be conservative for work!

Thanks to everyone on the congratulations and thoughts on the "to cobble/not to cobble" quandry, it was really helpful.

DOH got some really good slippers for christmas but they were too small so I cut the backs off them and made them slip-ons for myself, especially as mine had all split. I could have sold them but thought I might as well use them for myself - saves buying new ones and the hassle of selling the old ones.
  • Hope everyone has had a good weekend.

Just popping on to declare a £4.50 dress (well, £8 in the sale and I still had a voucher for £3.50) and a £2 necklace

    so £6.50/£200
    I'll get there!
  • Hello everyone

This pesky snow has been a blessing and a curse!

On the plus side I cut out some fabric to make a toile of a new dress, using cheapo market fabric I have had for a while, so I can tweak the fit for the good fabric version! Started sewing too.

On the down side, I have been in all weekend watching movies and dangerously browsing the net......have only succumbed to a £20 spend though, on a lovely warehouse jacket that I know I will wear (and it was in the sale).

I too have been thinking about a tan satchel bag, but then suddenly remembered one I had about 5 years ago, that I never use because it has press studs under the buckles and they always come undone. Then I had a lightbulb moment and realised I could glue the press studs and use the buckles! Ta da! Free bag for this summer!

Reading all these posts has made me curious to go charity shopping too - does anyone have any hints about good ones/ good towns to try? Could make a fun day out to go somewhere new and check out all the stores

Hi I would like to join this thread if poss. My problem isn't so much about clothes for me but the clothes I buy for the kids :eek:I would like to set myself a challenge of £1000

That would be for myself and the three kids who will just have to learn to make things last and wear things more than once. I have no idea how much I spend a year on them but it has to be about £250 a month xxx does anybody else have kids and if so how much do you spend a year in them???

Declaring a spend of £12 which initially was on a dress reduced from £69 to £12 but it just wasn't for me when I tried it on so back it went and was swapped for 2 shirts for £6 each reduced from £25 and £22.50. Very pleased with them and they can be for both work and also out of work too.

Total spend to date is £32 on 3 necklaces, 1 bracelet, 2 shirts and 2 pairs of jeggings. Pleased with how much I have bought for that amount opposed to full price cost of £142 pre sales. That should be it for now and I'll try hard to not spend in Feb and get on with wearing those jumpers and clothes I already have.

Have a night out in a couple of weeks and am planning my outfit from what is already in the wardrobe - have 2 in mind so far will see what the weather is like first!

    Today's money lesson is...

Always, always, ALWAYS double, triple and quadruple check you have ticked the "change up to 1pm on date of check-in" box NOT the "non-refundable" box when booking hotels for work courses which then get CANCELLED.

Not clothes related I know, but it has put a right downer on my day!

    Foolish lotti.

WOW! Miss empty piggy - wish my sister was a similar size to me. She's an 8/10 and I'm a 20 though ;)

Oh, lotti, sounds carp. Have you tried seeing if you can get a refund if it was cancelled due to the weather? We had a room booked somewhere and they refused to refund us as we'd tried to cancel after the cut off point (4pm the day before arrival). On the day of arrival there was heavy snow and people were being advised not to travel etc so I complained and threatened to share my views on TripAdvisor etc. They refunded me in the end.
