Utility room cleared out!
Have managed to finally put all my craft stuff together, for whenever the mood strikes, and its all tidied away in one of the utility cupboards now instead of being scattered around the house!
Also sorted all the wine we brought back from France, the stuff that didn't fit in the rack now is in another cupboard instead of on the work top... Must remember.... Clear out the cupboards more often!!0 -
Count me in for this challenge too please. I will need to move at some point within the next 6 months (not sooner than 4 months though) so need to clear out so there is less to move.

We still don't have enough space to hold all the spices (42 jars and maybe 20 other packets/boxes) and bottles of sauce, ketchup and that sort of thing, and the pasta and noodles section is a mess, but at least the middle of the pantry is looking good now
Maybe I need to do more Chinese cooking to declutter some of the four bottles of soy sauce we seem to have acquired!
I put all my spice jars in a small plastic basket on a shelf in a cupboard in the kitchen, it means I can see at one glance what I have rather than moving loads of little jars to find the dill.
I don't want to talk about 4 bottles of siy sauce we have a similar situation with more than one comodity in our kitchen LOL:o
I have spent a few hours in the loft today got rid of a lot of junk....why do we think we will want it again? I have some stuff to list on Ebay and some stuff to bin plus the charity shop gtes a donation. still a long way to go though...0 -
Just decluttered one of the cupboards in the kitchen so....
34-35 old baking trays
36 An array of wrappers that were unnecessary
37-39 out if date items
40 2 bags of caster sugar into one- why do I have 2 half used!
41 cake case containers discarded as taking up room and loads were only a third full
42 an array of unneeded boxes
43 overused candles
44 2 pots of paprika into one
45. Last of big pepper pot poured into table pot
Some are little things but they help as my cupboard looks beautifully organisedOrange Fairy

Really pleased to have found this thread as this is something I really need to tackle in 2013.
I have two areas of clutter I need to focus on:
1. All of my belongings still in my bedroom at my parents house since I moved out last February. I'm quite a bad hoarder (but nowhere near obsessive) and find it difficult to let go of items with 'sentimental value'.
I also have the problem that I'd like to keep some things (e.g. old business/marketing textbooks) for when I get a big enough place myself (currently renting a one bed flat with hardly any storage). I could easily box up these types of items and ask my parents to store them in the loft until such time, however the loft is already crammed full of old clothes/toys/cds from all my childhood.
I just don't know where to start! Was supposed to be doing it whilst I was down this Christmas but have found it too difficult to even start.
I'd really love to get this sorted so I don't feel so guilty knowing it's there and so my parents are able to redecorate the room now I'm gone so it can be used for visitors (bright pink walls and piles of junk are not really welcoming).
2. My flat. Whilst most of my other stuff is still at my parents (point 1) I do still have a tendency for hoarding things like cardboard boxes. My mindset is that I will need them whenever we move again next. OH says we won't put things back in the original boxes but still I hold onto them. There's a lot of things hidden away in cabinets that will need to be sorted out at some point too but at least I can't see it for now.
My question for those who find it easier to part with things as they declutter - how do you stop yourself getting attached to items you've had for many years?0 -
Progress update - my bedroom now clean, mattresses swapped over, curtains properly hung, DD1's bedroom sorted (wow!), 2 big bags for CS, 2 for recycling, 2 for binning. By xmas 2013 i want the house not only decluttered but redecorated and a home.MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025
