Good morning  to all 'de-clutterbugs' -

Beautiful bright sunny morning here in Prescot (about 8mls east of L/pool), so I've decided to use it to my advantage and stripped the sofas to launder cotton throws/cushions/fleece throws!

    Here's my 'De-cluttering to-do List' from yesterday

Put everything back where it should 'live'. - Partly done!
[STRIKE]Shufty furniture around to make space for the Christmas Tree.[/STRIKE] - Done
Check all paperwork to see what needs recycling/shredding/filing. - Partly done!
[STRIKE]Recycle any catalogues, takeaway menus etc.[/STRIKE] - Done
    Clean paintwork and windows.
Put all 'regular ornaments' to make way for Christmassy ones.
[STRIKE]Find Christmas music, dvd's, books etc and put on book case to use in next couple of weeks[/STRIKE]. - Done
Replace broken curtain track with new pole.
    Alter and re-hang curtains.
    [STRIKE]Dusting and vacuuming.[/STRIKE] - Done
    [STRIKE]Check Christmas Tree Lights.[/STRIKE] - Done
Get Christmas Deccies out of their boxes.
Hunt for Christmas Tree - think it's in the loft :undecided - delegated to OH for this afternoon
Replace all batteries in animated figures and remote controls!
[STRIKE]Remove sofa throws and cushion covers and wash/dry.[/STRIKE] - Done this morning - throws on line! Cushion Covers and fleece throws in machine right now. Large cushions waiting on floor in front of washing machine!

I need to go out to the shops for some fresh leeks - Leek and Potato Soup made with home-made chicken stock getting cooked this afternoon. That can be 'doing its thing' while I tackle some more of my List.

Decided NOT to go to my Family History Group - still trying to shift the symptoms of a cold and don't need to be sitting with lots of other folks in a stuffy Library for 3hrs. On the other hand, the walk to the shops in the fresh air on such a lovely day will probably do me the world of good! Now where's my scarf, gloves, throat sweets, tissues, 'nasal sniffy stick' etc ............... :rotfl:.

Keep up the good work everybody - speak again later

  • Hi everyone

Hope you dont mind me joining the declutter party? Havent posted on here in a while but was part of the Great Declutter thread a few years back! Since then have moved house twice and acquired a lot of carp along the way. Very keen to get rid of some before the new year! So, starting as i mean to go on, 2 bags of stuff went to the charity shop today. I went through the books/games/dvds i was gonna put out and checked whether webuybooks would take any, kept back those they will pay me for and CS got the rest. Just need to come up with £3 worth more books/games etc before i can send my collection off and await my dosh.

Hope to update here daily - I need to! Next step is to get to the bottle bank with the large box of bottles ive accumulated (closet alkie here ) recycling to go out and deal with the huge box of shredding i need to do - not looking forward to that....:(

Oh and also today will be returning a tupperware to a friend as well as giving her some silicone cupcake moulds i've never used which she will no doubt make more use of!

Well, I have done it - box room is clear :j:j:j

Two big boxes of 'stuff' in the car boot to recycle tomorrow. Two large bags of rubbish in the bin and so much shredding the shredder broke!! Airing cupboard sorted last week and anything I needed to keep put in boxes on the top shelf.

Tomorrow, going to go over the living room bookshelves again and get rid of a few more to make space for some that I have brought downstairs. There are just some books I have trouble getting rid of - have to do it in stages lol!!

I am estimating again, but think I must have gotten rid of at least 100 things today :T

Well done, Jess, great work there BUT don't be too sure that your shredder is actually 'broken'.

When I've done absolute LOADS of shredding, mine frequently 'goes into overdrive' or 'on strike'. Leave it switched OFF for a while, and give it another go.

I'd hate for you to turf it out, when it may just be 'in need of a tea-break'.

I'm feeling quite pleased with my Living Room progress at the moment angel-smiley-002.gif - and now have a couple of hours to finish it off before I go out to my Charity Shop Shift.

Please, declutterers - send me positive STRONG VIBES to stop me from bringing any more $h!te back with me .....................

2-8 things from the Brownie/Guide cupboard that were no use there that ended up in my house and I had no use for them, put on the 'help yourself' shelves at work and all gone very quickly :-)

9 bag of stamps to send to local hospice

10 - Top back to Boden - didn't like the arms so having the money back instead

  • Well its been another successful day :) Have collected together 26 dvds/books/games/cd's and parcelled them up ready to go to webuybooks - they're paying me £25. Very pleased with that, as i couldnt be bothered to list them all on eboy and in any case they prob wouldnt have sold or would have sold for pennies. So i just chuck everything in a box, stick the label on they give me and drop it off for collection - looks like they process payments quickly too, so should get that in time for xmas!

Have also had a good clean of the kitchen, not actually delved into any cupboards yet but still come up with a bag of rubbish and a bag for the CS. Mucho pleased!

Bookshelves sorted this afternoon - another 40 book to the charity shop. Feel like I am in a role now, unfortunately back in work tomorrow so things will slow down.

I am sure you are right Lilyplonk, unfortunately OH decided he could 'fix it'. Now pretty sure it is broken!!

    Part of the Furniture
I did some sorting/organising last night. I rearranged some blankets, electrical equipment and other stuff into different drawers.

Why was my spare freeview box previously being kept in my underwear drawer?!:p

I chucked out some old paperwork as it is bin and recycling day today.

I threw out some old milkshake mix that I don't even like and don't want it hanging around.

I am going to go through a box in my wardrobe today. I'm going to chuck out my old university yearbooks and whatever else I can find.

 - that sounds like a very familiar situation to me ;)!

Still feeling pleased with my Living Room just now; unfortunately, this is where it could all go back to square one! I've got a couple of very busy days, followed by 2days of child-minding - 12yr old and 5yr old boys . I've now got to resist going out, returning to the flat and just 'dumping whatever is in my hands' then going back out again :(.

However, on a more upbeat note, your POSITIVE VIBES worked a treat yesterday .................... I resisted temptation and DID NOT return with any more [STRIKE]crap[/STRIKE] - oops sorry, wonderful treasure trove from the Charity Shop :T.

Have had to 'wrestle' with the large cushions that were laundered and tumble-dried cos they went out of shape and can't afford to buy new ones right now - oh bgr :(! They've been battered into submission but are NOT going back into their covers or onto the sofas until closer to Christmas. OH will start to rest his dinner on them again - and we'll soon be back to how they used to be .

Although it wasn't on my original list, I've had a bit of a 'tidy around' in the kitchen. Had lots of small packets of different 'Ground Coffees' (from Christmas Presents last time around) - now all opened and chucked into the main Ground Coffee container. Hey, can't tell which is which - but it doesn't matter anyway, cos it's had a good 'shake-up' :D.

I've also been using up the last bits of fragrance in my Yankee Candle 'wax melts' so I can empty them out to make way for new Christmas-type Fragrances which were bought cheap last January :T I hate to waste these things as they can be melted quite a few times before they begin to lose their 'sniffability'.

OK - reckon it's now time for beakfast before I get ready to go back out to the Charity Shop for today's shift. More vibes needed for today, please ladies ......................

keep up the good work everybody, speak later - Lilyplonk x
  • I'm getting into the swing of things now. On my lunch break from work i just took a huge box of bottles and jars to the bottle bank (must remember to make more regular trips!) and the box of dvds etc for collection. Also got a bin liner full of bed linen in the boot to give to DH nan this evening.
