Am going to dive into the living room cupboard today - think it's mostly papers and Christmas stuff now that the hordes of glasses have been removed.

    Slow but sure...
  • Well, I've returned from my holiday and I binned all itinerary, receipts and other detrius that I had accumulated over 10 days before I left the hotel:j:j

I also took an almost empty bottle of shampoo and conditioner with me so left the tiny amount in the bottle and in the bin therefore saving the trip back from Spain.;)

The washing is all done and the "holiday" clothes are back in the case along with the sandals etc that are only used on holiday and they will be stored in the loft which frees up space in the wardrobes and drawers.:D

I was also very disciplined when away and "pre-decluttered".... By this I mean I looked at souvenirs/ ornaments/ linens etc...
Said "Ooh! How lovely" and DIDN'T buy them.:eek::eek:That felt really good!!!!:D:D

MandM90- I understand how you feel about books.
I LOVE:smileyhea books and had hundreds until recently.
I thought about decluttering them for months before I could bring myself to start.
Once I did I have found it so therapeutic. I began with the least liked ones and worked up from there I have cleared 2 Ikea 6 shelf Billy bookcases :j:j:jand only have one shelf full of books yet to read and one shelf I have decided to allow myself to keep:D
While on holiday I read 5 books and as I finished them I left them on a shelf for others to enjoy! :):)

Me and my DD have just finished the cull in her room.:j:j
Out with 2 black sacks of clothes and one of shoes and bags for the rag man.:D
One stacker box of text books to be handed onto a girl at work for her DD who is about to embark on the course mine has just finished!:T:T
One carrier bag of books for the "swap table" at work. :)
3 small wicker baskets with lids that contained screws, odd earrings and other assorted tat :eek:
I have also disposed of 6 assorted half bottles of toiletries that have been hanging around for far too long that nobody ever uses:D

Garden decluttered of weeds- half a wheely bin:D

Now all above mentioned stuff heading for a new home is stored in the understairs cupboard- apart from the weeds:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
I suppose I shouldn't begin rejoicing till Monday when it all actually leaves the house.:o
    Never mind.
Off for a good wash and brush up as going to a wedding reception tonight.
I will continue to clear as I go and keep in touch here for inspiration

  • 1 bag of cds, books & 5 tops to charity shop
    Another pile of paper shredded
Paper, cardboard, glass put into relevant recycling bins. Glass bin will be taken to recycling bins at the local tip/dump, as local council doesn't pick up glass for recycling from outside house.
4 dvds listed onto amazon for sale
    Kitchen bin emptied

Today I have spent a couple of hours in the garden, generally tidying up and dealing with the weed. The garden bin is now filled up.

Also, did some more paperlogs and filled up 2 more containers to soak shredded paper so that we can make some more logs next weekend.

Tomorrow I am planning to do some ironing and sewing (the most boring task that I can think off). We are also going to the tip to get rid off the stuff that has been filling up the booth in the car over the last few weeks.

Good luck to you all with your decluttering.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

MadamMim - Hugs and best wishes, hope you get on track again quickly. Always help and support available on these boards from all the lovely people.

Well not much to report lately, have sold a few bits, still need to sort out the CS stuff so it can be dropped off and we need to go to the tip next weekend as I've cleared a few old shrubs out and made a start on some of the trimming back which needs to be done so a few piles of stuff waiting to go.

Getting some more done as and when I can.

Keep up the good work everyone.

  • Well, some of the clutter to be distributed has been moved from the under stairs cupboard to the passage to go in the car to work tomorrow.
My DD and I finished her room today. Make-up, hair bobbles and jewellery were sorted and a small bag throw out so her room is completed.:j:j:j
DS room was done recently and bathroom is done:j:j
My room still requires a large amount of work.:mad: I did under the bed yesterday and the bookcases have been thinned to two shelves as I have said.
I am now using the free shelf space to hold my shoes and sandals(The nice ones not the everyday ones that wouldn't look as attractive.)
I am off to an "at home" on Friday so will be de-cluttering some oil, chilli flakes and 3 fresh chillis as I am going to make chilli oil as a gift instead of taking flowers.:):)
Just de-cluttering the last of a bottle of merlot :rotfl:then it's up to bed for me
    Night
    xx

    A decluttering thread, excellent :D

Decluttering is definitely my thing much to my OH's annoyance! He tolerates me decluttering anything so long as I don't touch his stuff. Well, his stuff is now about 2/3 of what's in the house so it's getting difficult.

    Recently, I've been quite busy:

    1) I've decluttered my wardrobe and got rid of some items to Musicmagpie for the grand total of £10.96

    2) I've cleared more than half the soft toys from the loft (2 bin liners)- I wanted to only keep 5 items but I knew my OH would be annoyed if I got rid of things that he'd bought me from himself or the girls

    3) I took to the charity shop all excess ornaments and photo frames from around the house

    4) I've decluttered the bedside tables so I can store books-to-read in them rather than useless bits and pieces

    5) I sorted out my primary school-aged girl's toy closet and managed to get rid of loads of old, mismatched stuff and to take to the charity shop things she'd grown too old for

    6) I got out the next size up of clothes for my toddler - clothes I'd bought in various sales earlier in the year - and put a bag of her clothes on ebay - due to finish soon

    7) I decluttered the bottom of my wardrobe where I store nappies, wipes etc so I could move these to a different (also decluttered) cupboard to stop the weight crushing my shoes

    8) and currently, I'm decluttering the loft -I've already removed most of the soft toys and some ornaments, now I'm tackling the large plastic boxes full of 'stuff'. I'm bringing them down one box at a time and going through them. My OH keeps newspapers from historic events and I'd like to put them all in cronological order and store them neatly and safely in plastic boxes - firstly so they're not a fire risk, secondly so they don't get damaged and thirdly so they can actually be accessed and looked at otherwise what's the point in having them.

I've still got other smaller jobs I'll be doing at the same time as doing the loft. It makes me happy.

I've also found I declutter in response to any stress or anxiety. Recently I've had a couple of things going on and it's made me do the above. It's as if I think that once my house is sorted then I can turn my attention to whatever else is going on. But in my experience the house will never be sorted because it's a never ending job.

I'm subscribing to this thread not so much for the motivation but to enjoy the virtual declutter I feel from reading other peoples replies :D

  • Welcome Scientist DFW, this thread keeps me going to weed out even more clutter but I have a feeling it may be a life long challenge:rotfl::rotfl:

I have done the afore-mentioned chilli oil and it looks fab. :j:j
My son who is a chef came in and asked if I had bought it for him. He was a little disappointed that I hadn't but very impressed at the presentation of it:D:D

Apart from the ingredients for the oil I have also thrown out 3 old dog toys and a toothpaste tube.
Not much but Mondays are always a bad day.....:(
    Happy mucking out everyone
