I have newletters from Playgroup and school why am I keeping them. Before I through them out, I often need to write a date down as a diary of memories. Why??? are we actually going to look back and think oh yes. In there are also party invites that my son daughter received - do i need to keep them or even log them in my calender. Who cares? Is anyone going to know ( or care) if I just chuck them out. The trouble is because I look at things and think I need to remember(log it somewhere) it takes such a long time to get rid of anything and it seem such an unsurmountable task.

Help - at the moment I can't ever see the room being useable again. I'm nearly 50 and I can see me still having this room to sort when I'm 90!!!!!

I still have some things from when my DS was at school and he will be 32 this year, lol! I also like to log things, I kept all my diaries and calendars for years so I could check what I'd done on certain dates, but I've now copied all the important things I want to remember onto the computer, and most of the diaries and calendars have now been recycled. I still have some to go through but I'm getting there!

I've also kept their clothes in the hope of passing onto grandchildren until I realised (& they told me that no child of theirs would be seen dead in any of the clothes that they were 'forced' to wear :D) that the loft would be full if I kept it up.

Seriously though, a friend has had so much trouble going through her mother's, then unfortunately her MIL's accumulated-over-many-years, 'sentimental items' after their deaths - it's taken her almost 2 years. I've thought long & hard about how much my children would have to do if/when anything happened to me & my husband & realise i need to take action.

I kept a lot of my DS's clothes, originally for our next child, but unfortunately we never had any more, so I then thought I would keep them for our grandchildren, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen either as by the time DS and his fiancee get sorted enough to have kids they'll be too old. I've now got rid of most of them, but must admit I've still got a few in the loft, just in case, lol!

It's taken us since just after Christmas, to help MIL to sort out her late partner's house, and we still have loads of stuff in the loft to sort through, we were going to just leave the boxes and bags up there but the estate agent said we can't do that, so we're hoping to go there next Saturday to get it cleared. MIL still has a lot of his things at her house to go through, when she feels more up to it, and she said that she doesn't envy us having to clear her house when she dies, lol, but hopefully she will get rid of some bits before the time comes. The problem will be that she has so many nice things, so it will be hard getting rid of it, and obviously we won't be able to keep everything, but hopefully it won't happen for many years yet.

  • Snowy day today so spent time trying to tackle utility room.... Only managed to lose a few items .... Medicine box overflowing with plasters and flu remedies... Will keep those. Was wondering is some clutter necessary? Or is it just clutter as it isn't stored neatly away?the whole house is looking better still working on losing some more toys and getting rid of a few items from kitchen . Put espresso machine away and now hav toaster kettle utensils jar and microwave sitting out.... Kitchen looks much better and easier to clean. Working on using up food before I do a big shop given up red meat since horse scare and am really struggling with meal ideas now! As I declutter hav stared to think if I was moving house wud I take/ need this item if the answer is no I get rid if answer maybe I leave it until my next declutter of that area ... If I haven't used the item since I get rid. Night all keep up the good work!

    Hi everyone,

Just starting my declutting journey ;-)

I have roughly cleaned the living room, kitchen and bedroom, ready to begin. Daughters toys all back in her room! Now I can tackle and organise stuff one at a time.

Organised a area for my christmas shopping, gift wrap etc Now as i buy things throughout the year, wrapped & straight into the santa sack ;-)

Removed old diary inserts from leather wallett which I started to collect all my weekly payslip into (there in every draw, under bed etc!)

Sorted through a pile of receipts into bed and shredded some old paperwork!

Would like to start listing things on ebay monday, declutting for better life and to pay off debts!!

took safe (no keys) and old car battery charger (lost mains charger) to recycling centre along with loads of wood from dismantling the cupboard under the stairs, and 2 bags of clothes and a huge box of books.

    hurray!

have also emptied the craft/diy cupboard of doom, painted it in white eggshell inside and tomorrow it's going to become my pantry.

which will leave only one cupboard of doom in the kitchen - my old pantry which will become the diy/cleaning/craft cupboard.

recycled a few things from there, will recycle some more tomorrow.

(ahem - picked up an antique mirror at the recycling centre - but it was on my "list" and was free so figured I could treat myself......)

    Evening everyone

I have only posted on here a couple of times but read everyday which keeps me motivated.

After a couple of weeks of the little one, me and husband:eek::eek: being ill I have got back into the swing of things. I'm slowly working my way through the house but had decided to throw away one thing a day from the cellar. I have a room sized cellar under the sitting room which is filled to the brim with rubbish and useful things I could use but can never find.:o

So while the little one was having his nap and after he went to bed I headed down there and have thrown out 3 bin bags of rubbish(it's a start), found two tins of de-icer and enough tile spaces to stock Bee and Que for years to come. Scarily I also found bags of unopened letters and junk mail from the very bad debt days. I plan to get mums incinerator a burn the letters which I think will help mentally for moving on. The debts are nearly paid off and I think will help the final push.

So tonight I can now walk into the cellar and see floor space. There's a lot to do but I'm feeling good.

Anyway sorry to waffle but I feel so pleased with the progress I have finally made. Thanks for the motivation.:T:beer::T

I managed to sort out a whacking great box of books for a charity coffee morning.

And, a huge box of plastic flowerpots for the recycling bin at the garden centre.

feeling very pleased with myself - going to have a sandwich & cuppa now ;)
