  • I've finally got a few things to declare:
    -my old television
    -my old dvd player

both taken away by the delivery man

    -plus all the packaging
    -2 dvds to the cs

    That's 5/365.

    A start at least.

    I am so very cross....

Decluttered about £300 of non-frozen freezer food after my oldest son raided the freezer while we were away for the weekend and left the door open...

He WILL pay me the money back if I have to sell his body!

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome :)
I think you're right cte1111, I do need to ask myself why I struggle to give things away. Hmm, only child, not good at sharing, influenced by granny who wasted nothing, lol.
Ok, have had a good think and have decided to do the job in 10 or 15 minute chunks, 1 room at a time until its clear!
Right, I'm going in... If I'm not out in 15 minutes, someone come and rescue me (preferably with a cup of tea and a biscuit :rotfl: )
  • Just popping on to see how everyone's getting on. Hello to all the newbie declutterers :T

flyingmamma I'm definitely on my third or fourth 'pass' through my house in two years. There are some things I'm not ready to let go of yet - for example, it took me nine years to get my degree with the OU, and I still have my books and notes. I only graduated last summer, and it's too soon, I worked really hard and that's the evidence. It'll go when I'm ready, and that's ok.

No decluttering done here, ad we were in Somerset visiting DS1, and have only just got back!
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

what a few days I have had!!
I have had such a clear out, and no where near finished!
I started on my bedroom, 2 banana boxes of old papers to be burnt - I dont have a shredder, so they get burnt on chimeria in the garden :)
also found a black sack of my DS old clothes and he left home 2 years ago!! so apart from one jumper that fitted my dad the rest is of to the clothe recycling bin at local firestation.

also 2 banana boxes of books, bits n bobs and oddments for charity shop

there is a toy box full of odd socks!! that is a task for another day - a matching party..lol :D

today I have tidyed out my craft cupboard and have sorted 2 boxes of odds n ends to be given to a friend who does crafty things with kids... wooden pegs for making dolls, stamps for fabric etc...

A dear friend has been staying for a few days and she is being sent home with some crafty things as well as some of my cookery books, my mum and i tended to use the same books and we had 2 of each, and I dont need 2 now :( so I am sharing the books we loved.

also the above friend is having a 40th bday party in may and its fancy dress, youngest DD wanted to get a dress from a site she had seen - the theme is victorian period!
Well I got my wedding dress (why i have kept it after 19 years and a divorce i have no idea!! ) any way... with some minor alterations we can make it look victorian - with addition of a bustle...
So today we got a red dye and put it in machine, It has turned out amazingly!!! the dress has a lace overskirt which took the red, the rest has gone a deep pink..
DD is so so happy ( and so am I!! as will save many £'s)

Pours a glass of wine and breathes deeply!!

Hi everyone, do you mind if I join your merry band? Please? My problem started approx 10 years ago when we moved to the slightly bigger house that we live in now. Somehow all the stuff that fitted in our old smaller house was overflowing in our new house! It still is overflowing but not unbearably untidy and somehow I just can't get a handle on it:mad:
I've tried the fly lady thing but sometimes I struggle for time. I run 3 businesses & work a couple of nights a week as well as daytime.
My biggest problem is that I HATE throwing or giving good stuff away! I give as much as I can to charity shops but still have loads to get rid of! I have great intentions for eBay but find it time consuming and annoying when something BNWT sells for pennies, literally!
Another problem I have is the that-might-come-in-handy-someday syndrome! I often find that even though I haven't used something for ages, years sometimes, as soon as I throw it out I'm looking for it! Aargh! Lol
Is anyone else the same or is it just me?
How do you deal with this?

Sounds like you could benefit from reading "Banish Clutter Forever" by Sheila Chandra, a link for the website was on here somewhere! ;)
I've loaned a copy from my library & I'm hooked... the DH is busy tomorrow & the kids at school so it's gonna be look out house I'm coming to get ya! :rotfl:

  • Had a good day today, sorted out chest of drawers in spare bedroom and got contents down from 5 drawers into 3, so now got 2 spare drawers. Also sorted all the sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases. Keeping 2 quilt covers for our bed, 3 fitted sheets and 3 flat sheets. We don't have a spare bed, only a sofa bed which is rarely used. Only other bed is a single, and I've got 1 duvet set and sheet on that. No one sleeps in it, it's just for show as we had to make the small room look like a bedroom for selling purposes.

    So.....

    141. 13 pillowcases
    142. 3 sheets
    143. Duvet cover
    144. Old greetings cards
    145. Very pretty box I am loath to declutter, but have no use for
    146. Half a dozen costume jewellery bracelets
    147. Snuggy wearable blanket thing: far too long for me and I have a fleecy dressing gown now instead
    148. 4 pairs of coloured tights that are too small (all new)
    149. Spices for mulled wine
    150. Fabric collapsible box for fat quarters
    151. Scarf
    152. 2 notebooks
    153. Money bank in shape of £ sign
    154. Cola bottle shaped tin
    155. 8 pairs hair bobbles
    156. Box from double blow up mattress that was living under spare bed
    157. Assorted altered jigsaw pieces from when I was a crafter and did swaps
    158. Jigsaw that I finished put away and will be taken to mum & dad's
    159. Empty sweet containers and wrappers that I hid in the drawers (me? a secret eater? Never!)

Pleased with what I've achieved today, the chest of drawers was where I shoved everything a couple of weeks ago when we had viewers due and I hadn't got around to sorting them out. Nice and sorted now. [STRIKE]ready for me to buy more things to put in them![/STRIKE]
