Not sure if this counts but after the weekend I had at work have sat down with my bosses and decluttered 14 hours from my job. Means I will get more time at home to get on top of the cleaning etc and keep on top.

Also means I won't be working weekends so OH will be happy, he works Mon-Fri and never wants to do anything when he gets home during the week, but expects me to want to do things during my split shifts on Sat & Sun afternoons when I get home, so I am always tired as I work till midnight on both these nights. Also less stress as I am taking a step away from Management and just doing admin.

Anyway off to work in a min so must run and get ready, days off tom & Thurs, so will hopefully be able to get some de-cluttering done.

    Have a good day all.

Congrats on going part time! I do two days a week now, and am so much more relaxed and happy, and have time to get things done and have more leisure time:)

My management days are long behind me. I spent my 20's striving to get up the ladder, and when I got there I found I didn't like it much! So I went back to being an admin person over 20 years ago, which suits me much better.

I went to the hairdressers this morning and was telling my hairdresser about my decluttering programme. She's now going to start decluttering her house. Not only is decluttering addictive, it's contagious too.

  • Afternoon all

I haven't posted for a few days but have been very busy. Last week I had Thursday and Friday off specifically for decluttering as I felt I wasn't getting anywhere doing bits at a time. The plan was for the loft to be completed but that didn't happen as frankly it was too darn cold! So what I did was bit by bit bring down the contents of 2 boxes and sorted them in the flat. So my report is:

    2 boxes from loft sorted
Large box of 20 odd books for freecycle (no interest yet, please god let someone want them!). This was a surprise as I went through the books just before Christmas and thought I had no more I could part with.
    4 items on ebay
Convector heater for freecycle (hopefully being collected tonight)
Paperwork sorting completed and large pile of paperwork brought to work and put in confidential shredding
Carpet cleaning booked for last weekend in Feb
2 CS bags filled with various odds and sods

Am feeling quite pleased with myself and last night I was able to sit and watch tv without thoughts of things to be done going through my head. My mind feels so much clearer. So what remains to be done are:
    1. Over door storage thing with various pockets
    2. Summer clothes (in loft so have to wait for a warmer day unless I throw them all down the hatch and sort them in the flat)
    3. 2 more boxes in loft
    4. Shoes
I think I can achieve the outstanding things at weekends now and this will be in addition to the ongoing impromptu decluttering of draws and smaller areas. Everyone is doing so well. I can honestly say that if it wasn't for this thread I don't know how much I would have been able to achieve.

Well I was up this morning with the baby at 7am, by 9am I had pulled out both sofas, hovered under them , washed skirting boards, thrown two small carrier bags of paperwork out and re-arranged the livingroom in a different way. Now onto my two paperwork baskets, lets see if we can condense them into one.

away for the weekend, for the children's 4th christmas (modern families!), so much more has come in than gone out :(

sorry haven't caught up with the thread properly and thanked everyone, but it really is very inspirational.

2 bags to CS yesterday, and DD has promised to go through her dressing up clothes to sort for cs (she got a whole new trunk of sparkley outfits at the weekend)

Got a large solicitors bookcase coming on thursday so will declutter the existing ikea one before then so that it can all fit in neatly and have sorted 4 underbed storage units into one large plastic box to go into loft (none of the beds now have the right size under bed bit) and will give boxes to cs.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

Have now reorganised into three lovely stacking storage boxes, all with click lids & see through. Being able to see it means I will use it more I think too.

Am just finishing off another person on my family tree (not literally, they were finished off in 1945! LOL) then I am putting it away for a period while I concentrate on making a patchwork duvet cover & pillowcases - will use loads of my fabrics too. Then also making a comforter for the bed and a braided rug - hopefully the finished look will be Victorian shabby-chic?

    Well done everyone. :)

ooh, must remember to tell you all. Found a brilliant way to organise paperwork on My Simpler Life website. Its called the Freedom Filer System.

I am going to follow the principle without buying new files. Will use permenant markers to colour the top of the folder and then keep the clear clip on label holder. Alternatively, could use coloured card made into folders.

    Hope it helps :)

Not much decluttering today, as have been busy mystery shopping and writing articles on Textbroker. I did spend another 10 minutes tidying the craft and book room. Craft magazines are now in nice new magazine folders with appropriate labels.

    Decluttered:

    4 magazines
    Calendar
    CD
Plastic box (thought it might come in useful but not particularly decorative so out it goes)
Cardboard box (gone to school to be made into a house in Art Club)
Empty shampoo (will reduce the toiletries stash eventually)
2 DS games traded in on Amazon
    Book

Also posted 6 ebay parcels as all my auctions sold, some just for a few pounds but that's fine, the total has added up to the cost of the plumber's visit (fingers crossed).
