Anyone been to Littlesea? What's it like? (thanks, syman, for your comments already noted)'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

I have just managed to book May half term at Park Resorts Sandylands in Saltcoats, Scotland as this was the only place left for the week.
Many of the reviews don't look too good though, which is not a problem as it will be a base for visiting the area. Wondered if anyone here has been to this site and has any thoughts to share?0 -

I would not want to spoil your holiday but our family stayed there last year... Driving in to the park you go through what looks like a run down industrial estate from the 1940s, not a good sign of whats to come. We reached reception which was like a wooden hut, got all of the welcome pack etc and then dared to ask about the beach. We were looked at like we were mad, then told it was across the railway tracks, but that it was covered in dog muck as the residents from the local housing estate would walk their dogs through the holiday park over the railway tracks and onto the beach to "exercise" them. The caravan itself was situated at the furthest end of the park, as it was one of the gold ones, which was ok as we were not mixed in with the boarded up ones or the ones surrounded by empty super strength lager cans and spirit bottles. The park itself literally back onto a local housing estate with just a chain link fence to seperate the two, no attempt has been made by Park Resorts to plant bushes or ivy or trees to give the sense of not being so close to the houses.
As we had children we decided to take them to the beach thinking it could ot be as bad as described... How wrong we were. It became evident after walking across the railway bridge that the beach was pretty nasty so instead of letting the kids play we decided to walk along the sand next to the water. We spotted what looked like a play park much further along and decided to head towards it, however on getting closer it seemed to be occupied by teenagers drinking and being obnoxious as well as being wrecked, so we turned around and headed back.
The swimming pool on site is very basic and housed in a hut with old school type open plan changing rooms.
We chose not to bother with the entertainment.
There is quite a nice chinese takeaway just off site on the edge of the housing estate and there are one or two local attractions such as Culzean Castle. However apart from that...0 -
We have booked for Craig Tara this time but would like to know what is classed as "luxury" and "luxury plus" caravans as these were all that were available to our two families. Looking on haven site they have standard, standard plus, prestige etc but no mention of "luxury category. Can anyone advise0

If you ask the question in their search box (on the Haven website) then it brings up the answer. Which is:
Daily Mail Promotion and The Sun
Standard - Haven name 'Standard'
Luxury - Haven name 'Superior'
Luxury Plus - Haven name 'Deluxe' or 'Comfort'
Premier Plus - Haven name 'Deluxe Plus' or 'Comfort Plus'
(I chose the luxury plus as I didn't fancy paying extra for the Premier unless it was for a Prestige really).
Hope that helps0 -

We went to Littlesea last year, it is a nice clean little site and the staff were all friendly. We went early July and it poured nearly the whole time! The activity vouchers were worth buying for our lot and they did archery, fencing, tennis (in the rain!) and had a whale of a time. The chip shop just outside the park is very good too. It is close to Weymouth and we also drove over to Charmouth to go fossil hunting, have a lovely time!0 -
anyone know whats left for may half term?0
