URGENT. Does anyone know any insurance company that insures impounded cars?

Get somebody who has a lowrider to collect your car. If you contact somebody who has one, they are likely to have come across this issue before. Most people unless they have been there don't get what you mean by needing this specific thing on the policy. You end up going round in circles to sort the issue. I hired somebody with a low-rider. The car when it was impounded would have been picked up and towed on a low-rider to the pound for the same reason (if car is not insured, legally it cannot be on the road at all). This takes away that problem. Normally you will have to have a form (the ticket given by police when you were stopped) signed at the police station and then take that with you to the pound. If the police have signed this then they pound will release the car. So you may have to take the low-rider driver with you to the station, so you will need to make this clear when you hire somebody.
And what is to stop you driving the uninsured car off the lowloader once you're outside? That's why you need to show insurance to get it, not because you can't have it on the road without insurance.
It's pretty obvious to anyone that that approach isn't going to work, unless it's being taken away by a scrap van.0 -
My grand daughter was stopped by the Powys police whilst moving from North Wales to South Wales a couple of weeks ago because her insurance had not been paid for 2 months. She was not aware that the payments had stopped due to a monthly payment being refused by her bank. I don't know how she wasn't aware but she insists that she didn't know. The police impounded her car and she had to stay in a B&B in Newtown for two nights until she could arrange insurance. Having got the insurance cover she went back to the police station on Monday morning with the insurance certificate email on her phone to show them it was covered, but they wouldn't accept it, insisting that she had to have specific impounded vehicle insurance to retrieve the car from the pound. We looked around to get the cover and it was £600 for a month's cover! We had to lend her the money to pay for it. She still had to pay almost £200 pound fee, so it has been a very expensive incident. We phoned a few other police forces to find out if they have ever heard of specific impounded vehicle insurance but they said that they hadn't. Has anyone else come across this and what did you do about it? Is it a scam? There is only one insurance company in the UK that does it. Your thoughts please. We know she was in the wrong as she was driving without insurance, but is this £600 reasonable?0

What sort of insurance cover did she buy initially whilst the car was in the pound?
Was it a normal 12 month insurance policy? Did she tell them about her pending conviction when buying it? (It was worthless if she didn't)
(This will go on being an expensive episode for her for some years as she now will have to disclose the conviction when buying cover)0 -
Most standard insurance policies clearly state that they cannot be used to release vehicles impounded before the start of the policy.
When asking for quotes, did she tell the insurer that her car had been impounded for being uninsured, that she needed to release it, and that she would be facing a prosecution?
Still - look on the bright side - she didn't find out after being involved in a collision.0 -
]]Iam having same problem police said they would phone insurer to check Id informed them that car was impounded refused my new cert of ins even tho restriction on small print stated that it could not be used to release ANY car from police impound EXCEPT car named on policy surely this means Iam allowed to pick up my car incured storage costs of £360 already and only 3 days to stop car being crushed or sold0

Which Police Force is this?
Many will have a FAQ page on getting your car released which show what procedure they should follow to allow you to release the car.0 -

So they've had it 18 days? Or are you including the £150 recovery cost because you used it without insurance. Why have you messed about for 10 days?0 -
