URGENT. Does anyone know any insurance company that insures impounded cars?
URGENT. Does anyone know any insurance company that insures impounded cars?
I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Police are being really difficult. I purchased a car on the 21st Dec, due to my busy schedule, I couldn't insure it. On 23rd Dec, my nephew drove the car and it was impounded by the police.
I've been advised by the police that I must inform the insurance company about the 'situation' before I carry out the policy, but when I tell insurance providers about the car being impounded by the police, they all refuse to insure it. Also the police said, that whenever I come to collect the car, they will call up the insurance and inquire if I informed them about the car being impounded
Advice please.
I will greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You can get short term insurance policy for a short a period as a day in less than an hour to get the car out and then you need to SORN it and store it off road until you arrange more permanent insurance. I'm assuming it has tax and a valid MOT. If you don't have a valid MOT you will need to book a MOT and you can drive it from the impound yard to the MOT test centre.
I'm yet to find a short term policy that insures cars impounded by the police.
I can't stress it enough, the police said that they are going to call the insurance company to find if they do this, if not, they wont give me back my car.0 -

Why do you think the police are being difficult? Are they not simply ensuring you fulfill your obligations as required by insurers to let them know about any pending prosecutions.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -
There are ways to get your car back. Why don't you speak with a solicitor..You may want one anyway as I'm assuming you have been charged with driving without insurance which is a minimum of a fixed penalty of £200 and 6 points.
The OP may be charged with allowing the car to be driven without insurance but not for driving without insurance. (It was their nephew who was driving).0 -
Unless of course the Nephew TWOC'd the car...0

Which is precisely why I stated that they may be charged for allowing the car to be driven without insurance.
Where was the car being stored at the time your nephew took it, and if it was at your house, how did you get it there without insurance. (This is something that the police might possibly ask you).0 -

Well as long as the car IS insured, the police shouldn't care that the owner declared that its to get the car out of the pound should they? - The legal requirement is to have a minimum of 3rd party insurance. There is no law that says you must have specific "Get car out of the pound" insurance. IMO the police are going above and beyond the call of duty.0 -

It sounds like the police are making sure the insurance company know the facts. If an incorrect declaration is made on the insurance application then the insurance wont be valid.0
