As thenudeone says, the police should of seized the car under the circumstances.

Can you explain what happened? like why did they stop you and what action they took? Also, did they allow you to carry on? If they did, then there must be a lot more to this because they would in effect, be allowing you to commit further offences. I can only assume that being Christmas day they were unable to verify what ever 'explanation' you gave them.

How many he's do you know called Sarah?

Its after eleven on Christmas day - Some libation has been taken! :p:D
  • mother did give permission.
police asked if i was insured and i said no.
car is not insured for any other driver.
police gave me no reason for stopping me, i was driving daughter home around 6pm today {christmas day}..i was not drinking or anything.
they gave me a breath drink test thingy which you blow into.
the police just told me to leave car where it is and told me that i cannot drive it and would need to tell my mother to pick it up on the road where i was stopped.
they told me i would get a fine in january.
when they stopped me and they found out i had no insurance they said on their phone thingy..we got one....i think they may have been having a competition with their fellow workers on who will get a non insurance driver first...lol
i,m laughing but i am really upset and worried.
  • If the police dont know your mum gave you permission, I wouldnt tell them as you'll both end up with points.
Although if you DO tell them, it'll save you a UT10.
  • What reason did the police give for stopping you ?

Probably something like the car not being on the MID database - thats more than enough for them to legally pull you over.
  • they told me that they could seize the car but they did not.
they said if they did then it would cost me more money and would be more paper work for them.
i have not driven a car for a year as i lost my job and could not afford the insurance ,petrol etc..so i sold my last car .
i have no car insurance of my own

This is weird... unless the car has been seized in which case they MUST give you formal notice of the fact. I find it hard to believe that they have simply told you to leave the car where it is and get your mom to collect it. It simply dosn't work like that.... the insurance status of the driver collecting it will need to be checked after they have pulled a driver of a car with no insurance.

They should of also cautioned you and advised you that you will be reported for driving without insurance. Also, as you told them that your mom gave you permission to drive, it is likely that she will also face prosecution.

If this is true (which i am struggling to believe it is), get yourself a solicitor at the first opportunity. There maybe a loophole to exploit as this is definitely improper procedure.

Why on earth didn't your mum drive you both home? And why did you risk it when you knew you didn't have insurance?
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
