You people need to calm down a little, these things do happen, with the amount of food produced and sold, especially the vast quantities that the supermarkets get through, it's pretty unsurprising that a small percentage of the food does not meet the required standards. What do you expect these people to do, examine every piece of food beore they send it out, perhaps they should x-ray it for anything in there that shouldn't be (sarcasm btw). As for the whole bird thing, there's not a lot I can say other than it needs to be sorted out.

People on here are complaining about so many petty little things, a maggot here, a nail there, you ever given a second of thought to those in the 3rd world that eat these sort of things since it's the only food they have, before complaining about these minor wrongs that occaisionally happen to you try thiking of others and stop being so selfish.

it still doesnt make it right, just becaue people in 3rd world countries dont have potato wedges i dont really want them with wormy maggots.
I dont think health and safety measures should be lax enough to allow foreign bodies into food.Hair gets into food lots, what happened to hairnets ?? and as for fingernails gloves should be worn.
And as for being selfish,as you have probably gathered im not that fussed about 3rd world countries,im more bothered about my son whose 2 getting an eating disorder because of maggots we found in his food.

You need to seriously get real.
This isnt the third world which is why we dont expect that sort of crap in our food.
And if it bothers you so much why arent you over there doing what you can????

ui cant believe you are comparing food here and lack off in 3rd world countries
we all care and most give to those in need so is it right to just forget the discusting things that appear in our food through lack of safety or hygiene reasons just because another country doesnt eat like we do.

i bet you havent found anything in your food,or you have a low hygiene level and dont mind what you eat, thats what it seems to me anyway.
appreciate what you have got x

Yea, I wasn't really too bothered about the 3rd world point when I put it in, I was more concerned with the first point I made, the point which you've all overlooked and the one which is the most relevant. As in, with the vast quantity of food they deal with, it's unsurprising that these things happen, I bet not even 1% of food is affected, probably not even 0.1%. You can't expect perfection without a perfect system, which, frankly, doesn't exist.

I didn't say it each case wasn't surprising, I said that it wasn't surprising it happens in general. And it sounds in that case like Tesco have an issue with their staff, and they have a really bad sense of humor, nothing more.

I used to work in a factory that processed and packed frozen fruit and veg for most supermarkets from the real cheapo range to the best i.e M&S and Tesco finest.
When we had visitors in from these supermarkets checking on the quality of produce we were packing, we were told that if we dropped anything on the floor i.e a corn on the cob, to put it to one side and pack it later once they had gone. Most of the women done this but mine went in the bin.

We also had to sort frozen raspberries to pick out the ones that had maggots and/or maggot eggs on them. Usually we were pushed for time and most maggots got missed. These were usually for Muller to be put into the fruit corners.
Also we used to get in what they called "distressed stock" this was out of date stuff that we then put another 18 months date on.
