Unattended young kids in car - would you have done anything?

  • Where were the other children?

To be fair, the odds of what happened happening were tiny. The harm done to the child by the selfish mother and !!!!less grandmother (if this is the level of care they were providing) will do much greater damage than the freak event.

(You didn't mention previously that the car was out of sight. It sounded like it was parked outside the takeaway (which usually have large windows. I've previously stated that I never ever leave my DD in the car if I can't see it.)
the 8 yr old was in the takeaway and the baby was with an aunty, the car was parked outside the shop but not directly they only knew what was happening outside when the lad started smashing the takeaway window in then the owners/cooks got hold of him and nana got to the car to find the window smashed and glass over granddaughter

well they are 18 and 15 now , so yes , and yes i have left them in the car when they were younger , although obviously i didn't leave them when they were very young , and guess what NOTHING HAPPENED,
  • when my first boy was about 7 months old i was at work whilst he stayed at home with his dad...he picked me up as normal on the sat and as you do asked what he had been up to and if jake had been ok, he said yes hes fine.....nothing out of the ordinary...

anyway tuesday came around and i was just getting out of the shower and my door in the bathroom, at the time opened outwards in to the landing and to my shock and surprise there was 2 police officers standing there...

my reaction was instantly as you can imagine "whats going on and jakes dad is standing there saying to me dont worry ill explain with an uneasy smile on his face....
the policemen said we have come to check on your child.....
they took one look in his room as he was asleep in hos cot and they said ok thats fine and walked down the stairs and left....
obviously i asked him what the hell that was all about and he explained............

he had gone to makro and taken jake with him aloong with his sister.....jake had fallen asleep and instead of taking him in makro, which is a warehouse looking building you cant see out and its a big store....he decided to leave him asleep in the car alone, not even his sister stayed in the car with him!!

a lady see jake in the car and reported it to the store they put a request put over the speaker asking him to return to his car immediatly where he was greeted by this lady who gave him a piece of her mind.....and so she bloody should too.....she then went on to report it to the police and obviously gave his number plate over so the police could locate where the car is registered and find his address, and they paid us visit to check to see that jake was ok and being looked after and not neglected......hands up to the lady and the police for doing what they did, and boy was i livid absolutly fuming and mad and angry and more so at his sister for not staying in the car even and also at the fact that he didnt even tell me until he had too.......:mad::mad:

there are certain times i think its acceptable in my boys situation its disgusting and completely unexceptable.....

These statistics are taken from america where 30 children die a ear from being left unattended in cars. They die from being tryin to tip the machine over. I don't mow anyone hat would try and do that

Some of those deaths are true accidents: the parents literally forget that their infant is sleeping in the back of the car. This can happen when something disrupts the normal routine and the parent goes on autopilot. It's nothing to do with neglect. Some of them are selfish jerks who knowingly leave a child in a car not thinking that on a warm day a car can get hot enough to kill a child. (They may be going to get high or something.)

I leave my children in the car when I pay at petrol stations because it is statistically far more likely that they'll be hurt by another car as we are walking through the forecourt.

Of course it happens by accident sometimes which is horrible I remeber the story of one poor man who left her baby on the car and the child minder tried to get in touch she didn't ring her back until the afternoon and the childminder wanted to know why she hadntbdroppedoffvthe baby . She was sure she had but poor child had been in the car all day

I remember reading about this and it absolutely terrified me because I did something similar with ds1 when he was a baby.

I always went to the shops alone as I would go in the evening when dh was home from work. One day I took ds with me, and it was quite a warm day in may. Went into asda, picked up a few bits and walked back to the car to find ds asleep in the back. Up until that point I did not have a clue, I had completely forgotten I had ds with me. I just thank my lucky stars I had only nipped in and hadnt gone to do a full shop. I felt so utterly guilty and stupid for weeks.

Its not really for me, but to be fair I think the risks of leaving children in a car for a small amount of time are pretty low.
