Hand yourself in for opening mail addressed for someone else, the penalties are quite mild, so don't fret.
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

Telephone companies are annoying including BT. You give them the exact date you are going to move and they ensure things are done 10 days early. I think they do this so you can't pull out of the agreement.

Are you referring to my post? :D

I still think its out of order that someone can just place an order on our account without having any more info that our address and phone number.
Its most likely to have been our buyers done this but we haven't even exchanged with them, they don't even have their mortgage offer yet!

(reading that back it sounds sarcastic to me but its not meant to be :o )

When I arranged building insurance last week (did it online) it said it had sent the policy documents to the new address.. I rang the company and they said it does that automatically. I had to get the insurance in advance to satisfy the lender so had no choice. I rang the Estate Agent to inform the vendor that there would be a letter addressed to me, they were fine about it. Your bunny boiler woman sounds v. cheeky/ignorant and selfish to me.

    Yes :) No offence meant.

This happened to me 2 years ago when I moved. I got the same phone number as the people who lived their before. This would have been all right but some random woman kept ringing up asking for the old people who lived there for the entire time I had the number. They didn't like her so they refused to give her the number and where quite happy for me to have their new number as long as I didn't give it to her.

So this time I waited until I completed and made sure I got a different telephone number.

Your buyers will get annoyed when for up to three years they will get phone calls for you, and some of the people on the phone will be really annoyed when they realise you haven't give your buyers a forwarding number.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    Write on envelope:
"Return to sender not known at this address"

    Post in letterbox.

Keep doing this especially with banking letters. Some banks stop sending out letters after 2-4 weeks because of fraud.

  • Next time they ring say tell them they should contact the estate agent about all matters and say that the buying process takes a coulpe of months.

Then phone up BT and cancel your subscription and give your mum a cheap pay as you go mobile. Tell teh estate agent about the hassle and then also tell them the phone is disconnected they should side with you and help with the cover story ;)
  • Don't send any mail back. keep it until the day before exchange. hand it to them and tell them that your price has now gone up by 10%. As they're so keen to buy the place, you're sure that they'll want to find the extra money from somewhere.

just an fyi but nowadays you can port your landline number basicly moving it from your old house to the new one, if the sellers chose to take thier number fair enough otherwise it just gets put back into a pool likely for about 10 years and you dont need to deal with anybodys old calls.

my folks got calls 15 years after they moved in for the old owners, i personaly couldnt be botherd with it.
