Tesco Refunded me in error and are chasing payment!

I bought a Blu ray player from tesco direct and collected it in the local store, at the time the PDA gun wasn't working and all i did was put my signature on a blank peace of paper.

About a week later i recieved an email saying my item is still available for collection, i ignored the email and around a further week later i noticed that they had refunded me the money. I thought this may be due to them not recording the collection, winner!... or so i thought. On Friday i received a phonecall from Tesco saying that they have refunded customers in error and are chasing payment but as it's xmas they will call back in January!

Do i have to pay them the money back? Or should i deny collecting the item as it did not go through the PDA?

Thanks

Luke

The fact you have to ask this question reflects badly on your personal morales.

You have the item. Pay the money for it.

    Or return it.

Was there not an almost identical thread to this quite recently?

    Edit: Indeed there was.

Personal Morales? I did pay for the item!
Maybe they could write it off against all the corporation tax they avoid paying! How about that for Morales!

I have to agree, you need to pay for it. You walked into the store and walked out with the item. Pay for it or be arrested for shop lifting
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

I don't see the corporation tax issue is relevant to your refusal to pay? For one thing I don't think Tesco are one of the companies accused of not paying!

If you don't pay then they will take it futher and ultimately you'll have to pay up.

I walked in to the store having already paid for it online, this was almost 3 months ago. They refunded me around 2 weeks after purchase and now over 2 months later they are chasing me for their error.

I haven't refused to pay, they've had the money once. I'm just trying to understand my goriunds before they call me back in January.
I do believe they have been accused of it in the past.

Accused of what? Letting people have goods for free for a few months? ;)

You need to pay. They have 6 years to chase payment - they have chased. They are being reasonable in leaving it until January to secure the payment.

So you have held onto THEIR money for 2 months without telling them that you had the goods.
Bet they even let you keep the points as well...

Surprised, given that they have your card details. They simply did not redebit. As they would be entitled too.

You are lucky they are not charging interest. :rotfl:

  • Do the decent thing and pay them back the money. What if the tables were turned and they owed you a refund? Would you be on here debating whether you should bother chasing them for it?
