What planet are you on that you think lying to them would be a good idea? They have your signature on a sheet which they will still have.
Also, it's likely that they have you on CCTV collecting it.
You should consider yourself lucky that they didn't just re-debit you.
Out of curiosity, why did you not contact them when you first found out?
They recently did the same thing with me. I have been contacted and told someone in the relevant department will contact me in the new year. The money's been put to one side, so there'll be no nasty shocks.
I bet you'd be right on it if you'd been doing your shopping and they'd debited you twice.
Be honest, doing what you're suggesting and lying would just make you a !!!!!!.
  • I'd avoid paying at all costs, but that's me, I don't have morals where money is concerned. I learnt hard when I got in soo much debt, now I'm sorting it.

I take advice from others and make my own decisions! :D

    From what I read above, I'm a !!!!!! :-/

So you're sorting it by stealing? It's not the traditional advice given to people with money problems!

I bought a Blu ray player from tesco direct and collected it in the local store, at the time the PDA gun wasn't working and all i did was put my signature on a blank peace of paper.

About a week later i recieved an email saying my item is still available for collection, i ignored the email and around a further week later i noticed that they had refunded me the money. I thought this may be due to them not recording the collection, winner!... or so i thought. On Friday i received a phonecall from Tesco saying that they have refunded customers in error and are chasing payment but as it's xmas they will call back in January!

Do i have to pay them the money back? Or should i deny collecting the item as it did not go through the PDA?

    Thanks

    Luke

What would you be doing if the situation was reversed and Tesco had accidentally charged you twice? Shouting from the rooftops about being ripped-off no doubt.

You have the item, you paid for it but have been refunded incorrectly therefore you need to refund Tesco or return the item.

Didn't know the OP had money problems. But I do and did, but I won't after 6 months or so, only because I changed my view of money!

I'm not proud, I'm also not saying it's for everyone, but I take advantage of systems if I can, if it's legal of course, if I loose I loose, if I win I win, if I get in trouble I get in trouble.

BUT I want the best for my family and I can't get it by letting people take from me, so I take back sometimes - I do not mean stealing when I say that!

I think everyone has their own style, but I don't criticise others because I don't agree :)

So when you had money problems you ordered expensive electronic items and tried to avoid paying for them?

Assj... The problem here is refusing to pay is not legal. The OP has goods that they have accidentally be refunded on. They need to pay that money back, else they have an expensive item they're refusing to pay for, which in this case is theft.

    Got goods, pay price.

If not, well, don't assume they'll just write it off...

Um not so sure a court would be so sympathetic with Tescos. The OP paid collected the item and then tescos, out of thier own stupidity refunded the payment.

They wouldn't be sympathetic with op either.... to look at the other perspective, up on realising their error they acted reasonably in allowing op an extra month to repay the cost of the goods.

Well you haven't learn much then, since your advice is to duck and dive payment "at all costs".
