  • amr and minicooper - we feel your pain with regard to crap landlords. ours does literally NOTHING. The trade off is that we also have no inspections and are allowed pets, but even so it is rubbish. For example, our boiler had problems, so we had to get it sorted and fixed, pay out for it and then claim back the money, that is not right is it?! Also, the adjoining property to ours is also landlord owned and rented out, and there is a joint driveway to both properties which to put it mildly is a potholed mudbath and getting worse for every Winter it goes through, the adjoining property's landlord is willing to split the cost with our landlord to put it right, but do you think our landlord will get his act together?! no! in the mean time, our cars look filthy in the Winter months, and there are now so many holes that I have to go REALLY slowly up our drive as it is so bumpy my little car hits the bottom of some of the hole edges as I go if I go too fast :( We can't wait to leave and buy somewhere so we don't have to deal with the mudbath anymore, it is just so miserable.

32b32013 - well done on clearing two more accounts, a great achievement

Spagbol - I echo 32b32013, you are a diamond for keeping this thread going and updating etc, it is such a great motivator for us, I am always giddy when it is time to come on and update with more payments we have made!

    Hi everyone

I'm afraid I've been awol for almost 2 months - although I have still been reading.

My expected DFD was the end of February but due to family crisis, the death of a beloved pet and a reoccurance of my depression I went a bit mad on the spending front. The end of Feb came and I was not able to pay off my final CC. This made me feel even more of a failure and I couldn't face posting.

During March I've been trying to get myself sorted - my GP has put me on some meds and I am starting to feel better. The great news is that I have finally paid off my debt so am now officially debt free. I'm still skint though until I get paid at the end of April - but I figure its well worth throwing everything at CC to finish it off now! So - - - -

This is A-MAY-ZING!!! Well done hun, you should be so proud of yourself for this achievement! Freedom from debt is yours, enjoy every second of it xxxx

  • Well, a bit of unexpected extra money has appeared in the pot this month, during our monumental expedition in to the city to get lots of jobs done, we managed to get a refund of some of the money we paid out on suits for our now cancelled marriage blessing we had planned for the Summer. We got almost £100 refunded so we are pleased with that and will be throwing it at a debt, the refund has gone on to my card so I should see that in my account on Thursday so I will pay it off something then. We also banked the hog roast refund cheque today so I will be able to use that to pay off a debt too when it clears. This month is going brilliantly for us in terms of the amount we will have available to pay off debts! We are over the moon!

Sorry to hear you've had a crisis, but how amazing that you managed to pay off the spending spree and the last of your debt only one month later than planned! It's really inspirational!

amr - re:insurance, it will be in your policy documents that they can charge you for changes & amendments to your policy, it's normally classed as an "adminstration fee". Or, if there is a difference in insurance ratings between vehicles then it is the difference between premiums and this will be in the documents as well. I used to work in insurance, the only way to resolve it is to get them to listen back to the phone call and find the advisor in error, otherwise you're going to have to pay the cancellation fee.

Newlywed it will be the landlords that lose put in the end. I spoke to an architect earlier about the old house vs new house debate; they pointed out that all houses need maintenance, and the old houses that have survived are the ones that have been well maintained so far. If our landlords keep this up, they'll just lose value... And they'll have a high turnover in the houses, which costs them in the long run.

I have to retract my self-pitying from earlier, I've just had a repeat customer who purchased a few pieces last week and has come back this week and bought more than last time :T:T This might be a feasible business afterall, albeit a slow-starting one. *sigh of relief* Just waiting for the PPal to fill up to a size replicating what I've spent on the business so far and I'll pay myself back :)....probably sometime next year lol

That's good news. Sounds like you just need to give it time. Well done.

Our house does need lots doing to it, there are small hairline cracks EVERYWHERE in the walls and ceilings, the banister is completely knackered to put it bluntly, the boiler is ancient, when we had it fixed, the man who fixed it told us the flue is not lined so is just bare brick, and the brick is just crumbling away in to the boiler. We told him about the flue needing lining and that it was crumbling away in to the boiler when we went to claim back the money we paid to get it fixed. Do you think he has done anything?, no! This is a lovely 1930s cottage with so much potential, but eventually the flue will just fall in on itself and then will cost a small fortune to fix! I don't understand it at all, as even if he isn't living here, he owns it and it is part of his "portfolio" so surely you want it to remain in reasonable order! I can't understand why anyone would let this what-could-be-fab property go to ruin. Rant over!
