I'm hmph-ing at the moment. I'd ordered a cheap MP3 player from Ebay for a Christmas gift. Well it came yesterday, and so last night I tried to set it up ready for the non-technical recipient and familiarise myself so I could teach them how to use it.

Nope. Faulty flimsy crap. The cable that attaches it to the computer doesn't seem to connect properly, so the connection drops in and out, I can't get music to go on it properly, and it's quite awkward to use as well, hasn't got proper instructions either. Even OH who is amazing at computers and such couldn't make the music go on it properly. Plus the screen isn't quite how the photos made it out to be. You could say what did I expect for the price it was, but I'm still irritated.

I've messaged the seller that I want to return it for a refund, but I'm actually rather hoping they ignore me so I can just get Ebay to close the case and refund me, and I won't have to pay to return it. Just thinking now that it's lucky I did try to use it before giving it to the person, so I've got a chance of sorting it out and they're not disappointed!

Talked myself into extending my budget and ordered a different one from a different seller late last night after we decided this one was no good, so I'm just hoping that one arrives soon and is alright now.

Had to laugh at that "Santa" though, oh dear me!

Wrapped another 22 presents. Only 8 left to go. I know I should crack on with them but I just can't face it. They are in my bedroom 2 floors up.

I am buying ds some new t-shirts at the weekend, then I will be done. So will do the last bit of the wrapping next week.( bar one) That one is cheese and it stinks. It's in an air-tight container at the moment. It's not being removed and wrapped until the very last minute, as I hate cheese.

Dot just got up.. she is really not well.. temp is really high so she is drugged and stripped and desnotted and desicked.. I'll see if I can get her in the bath shortly that should cool her off. It looks like Pixie is starting with it too.. she has runny eyes and sneezes.

I need help! I get small presents for my friends children with a budget of approx £6-7. Two of the three are sorted. The other one I have been told is into her french so french magazines would be brilliant so that she can practice reading it etc in the colloquial way (not just how you're taught). Problem is I am finding it hard to find where to buy these from.. any ideas?? The child in question is female and 15/16 years old...

Lazysheep, I studied French at uni, and I would recommend a French dvd over a French magazine, as it can be easier to get into, and generally easier to find! I'd recommend this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Les-Diaboliques-DVD-Simone-Signoret/dp/B000UEX4T0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386780563&sr=8-1&keywords=les+diaboliques

It's a very well-known film, full of suspense, where the wife and mistress of a french school master plot together to kill the husband, but there's a very clever twist in the tale! It was my favourite when I was studying, and even writing essays about it didn't put me off :D

I've got plenty of other suggestions if you think that might not be her thing.

p.s. Just had a quick google and found this http://www.uniquemagazines.co.uk/mag-349245/buy-Elle-French-magazine, which might work if you particularly just want to get her a couple of magazines?

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I'll have a word with her mum and see what she thinks.
  • Stressed is not the word :( humph, feeling so un Christmassy atm!

Work is stressful right now. I have one day off between now and Christmas Day and my OH still hasn't told me what he wants... so far he has a stocking filled (at least that's one thing?) and a t-shirt and pair of lounge pants that were reduced in Primark bought for him. Not really the £100 I budgeted for presents :/ He just won't tell me what he wants. He's been told tonight that Friday evening is his utter deadline to tell me so if he doesn't by then so be it.

Saturday is the last day I can get to the shops as I work Monday to Friday, 9 til 6 most days so I can't even take advantage of the extra two hours our shops are open for late night shopping. This Saturday I have a driving lesson until midday then my landlord decided yesterday that she wanted our extractor fan (which works bloody fine!) refitted Saturday afternoon and I *have* to be in when they do it. Uh, no. Sunday I'm going to my Nans as it's the tenth anniversary of my Grandads passing and next weekend I'm off to my cousins wedding which I got invited to two weeks ago...

    Still to do:
    - Sort out OHs presents.
    - Decorate Christmas Cake. (22nd December job)
    - Make yule log. (24th December evening job)
    - Buy my SS from work something - will have to be done this weekend as I have to give it to her on Monday...

    Done:
    - Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother in law presents
    - Cards written
    - OHs stocking wrapped.
