Hugs to all that need them :)

I realised last night we have a small black twinkling twig tree in the loft. It never used to twinkle but I stand it on the base from an old fibre optic tree we had that broke.

I thought about getting it down from the loft today, but that is as far as I got.
I went online and found some white baubles in B&Q. Will pick them up tomorrow on my way home from work. I might get it down over the weekend, if I can be bothered.

I know ds hates it. The last time I used it he just said ' I hate that tree'. Oh well, he can hate it again this year.

Been on the phone to dds school today. They texted me at 11 to let her know her second lesson was in the other building 3 miles away
What the hell did they think I could do about it.

Had the new internet put in today. The main BT socket is in my bedroom, just above my headboard, so I know have a bl00dy large white box attached to the wall. I've got to get some special plugs ( £20) that send the internet through the electrics, so I can at least have the router downstairs, and not on my bedside table !!!

Told my Dad yesterday that this is the last year I am buying presents for my sisters 4. I don't know them and have no idea what they have or want. Next year it will be money. It's up to her if she wants to leave it. She sends mine money, so to me it seems quite pointless. I'd rather spend my money on my own kids, but if I say that I will be the bad guy. If she says that it will make sense to everyone.
But either way it's 4 less presents to worry about next year.

b-e-g I went to the Metro centre when I was 19. A group of kids followed us all over taking the pee out of our accents. They were quite nasty. I expect it was because we were on holiday and had money on us, so we were buying lots of stuff. We were called Snobby Southerners. It wasn't pleasant. Then to top it off I took a wrong turn getting back to where we were staying and ended up on a rather dodgy estate. I was driving my Dads BMW at the time and was to frightened to ask for directions. It is the only time I have ever really felt unsafe.
It's sad really, because everyone else was lovely to us, but those kids and the fear is what I remember most. :(

ETA have decided to get a NowTV box from Tescos. It's £25 but has 3 months of Sky films with it. So that will see us over Christmas and the cold months. I'll then cancel it until next Christmas.

Blue-eyed-girl - thanks, I need to go and look at Fenwick's window as well!

Had hoped to visit Newcastle today but after two days of shopping my feet are suffering (painful heels) so we just made it into Durham instead. Don't know whether we will make it into Newcastle now before Christmas but as soon as we see a window of opportunity, we will jump at the chance. :D

Thought I would share another xmassy photo with you all of what I spotted in Durham today - a Christmas tree made with recycled carrier bags. You can just see the lights coming through but unfortunately we couldn't until it was all lit up.

    2013-12-04%2015.39.18.jpg

This was all part of the Lumiere festival which was on in Durham a couple of weeks ago.

On the shopping front, I managed to get Mum a skirt and jumper and yesterday we got her some morello cherries in kircsh from Hotel Chocolat (she deserves a little of luxury and it is xmas) ;).

I treated myself to a new pair of jeans and a couple of scarves to go with my new coat. :)

Just about there with the present shopping now except for some last minute things eg plants (if I get them too soon, I will kill them off buy 25th).

OMO - what an awful experience you had at the Metrocentre. It only takes one unsettling incident to put you off a re-visit. Unfortunately dodgy housing estates seem to be a sad fact of modern life.

    Take care everyone

My eldest daughter went out one day to college. 3 days later the police found her at her boyfriends shared house. I will never ever forgive her for that... but life goes on, we move on and relationships change.. one day yours will grow up and will realise how she made you feel.

My advice.. don't comment, don't say anything. Don't wait for her to ask about Christmas extend an invitation so she knows you still love her and want her there as part of your life. By saying nothing you are excluding her.. all you need to say is.. 'it is lovely to see you' and give her a hug.

TBH I don't believe anything that has gone on has anything to do with anyone but you and her.. including step-parents.

I get the crying about it though I did my share but there was no way I was letting her know that.. and in the long term if things fall through with the current male fancy you need to maintain the relationship so she knows she can come back to you, you don't want her to end up on the streets.. there was no way on gods green earth I was losing my daughter for the sake of some cretin she decided was good enough for her to live with.

if you need an ear that has btdt you know where to find me! xx It gets easier.

(I'll not mention my grandson :p)

i cant beleive that you have been through exactly the same thing. my dd had just had her 16th birthday and i didnt have a clue. did your dd come home again? i have asked her to christmas dinner today in case she was waiting and i text her all the time saying she can come home any time. im trying to keep all options open. its so hard to forgive her as she doesnt thnk shes wrong. she just thinks shes grown up.

DH just found this on the tesco clubcard tv website. It's one of my favourite christmas films and not available on DVD (not legally, anyway!)

    Such a great film and a wonderful cast-give it a watch! :)

    So far I have :T:
    1. Written all cards, but still to post (Thu or Fri dependant on weather).
    2. Been to hairdresser (very small trim but some cool colour).
    3. Knitted a little more of mum's scarf.
    4. Established that we have plenty of crackers left from last year (and will hopefully get more in the sales again this year), and some party poppers too.

    Still to :eek::
    1. Write DS cards.
    2. Sort DS disco clothes if school and /or disco not cancelled, but he has a rough idea of what he wants to wear.
    3. Start wrapping.
    4. Work on Christmas Day menu.

Mum's birthday parcel arrived fine at her house and she will open that on her birthday.
