I've been busy stocking up this week. We have a brand new Tesco that opened last week. They have installed a scan machine with flyers with barcode a that guarantee you £1 of a £1 spend, but you can also with £5,£50 and £500. You scan them once a week and keep them for the following week where you can scan them again.
So my OH picked up 50 odd fliers in a local shop, we have been scanning them all week. Most were £1 but we got 5 x £5 ones too. You can use them altogether too :money: so we have been filling the chest freezer with the nice Xmas nibbles for our Boxing Day buffet with the Inlaws, we plan to get some wine with the rest for this week. Then we can scan them all again on Monday and see what we get.
It's meant we can buy a lot for Xmas we wouldn't have afforded otherwise.
I'm trying to think what else we could buy for Xmas dinner. We are running out of freezer space. I might buy crackers, cranberry sauce, some pigs in blankets that we can store in my dads freezer, goose fat for the roast tatties. Anyone any other ideas what they would spend them on? It's not the biggest shop, so not much clothes and toys to buy.
We have a guaranteed £50 a week until the 22nd but potentially more if some scan at £5 it should change each week as the machine is random:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

I'm really boring so I would buy stuff for January. Toilet rolls, washing powder, bleach etc. That way if it snows, or your short of money you know you have the basics in your cupboard.0 -
Me too ,packs of pasta, tins of soup, beans etc. I actually did a cheapo shop of just that stuff last week & had it delivered from asda, it will bulk out meals & keep us going through January which is always a lean month for us as I have much lower income due to holidays (self employment sucks sometimes!)I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

morning all
my dd came last night and its getting impossible. i felt so sorry for her even though shes in the wrong becuase i could not literally get one word out before crying. i open my mouth and cry. i dont know her any more. i tried to talk to her but tears just flow. then she went upstairs to see her brother and he is short with her. i asked him after if he was ok. he just said he was fine but he feels cross with her that shes chosen another family. its a hard situation and its getting worse because i just keep crying. ive spent a lot of years on anti depressants and got off them finally last year so although im depressed im reluctant to go back on them as i know they wont really help. im ok really just tearful beyond belief.
my eldest dd is coming for christmas lunch now as well as tea. i havent asked my other daughter as im assuming she would ask if she wanted to come. i ask her constantly what are you plans for christmas and she just says she will come round christmas morning. its going to be so awkard as shes still not made any effort to discuss what shes done and ive told her straight that her sdad wants answers.
ive been looking at old christmas magazines this morning i have the last 9 years of good food magazine and some other food magazines from years ago. STILL searching for my christmas mojo
hugs to all those who are ill and i have the greatest respect to all those who answer individually. wow your good!!0 -
Nanamia- I'm here albeit it in very short doses (which is probably the best way for you to take me-lol!)
Havent found the time lately to post but I do try to dip in for a mooch to see what you have all been up to every few days. (Although it has been nearly a week now). Ive given up trying to backdate all your news cus I wouldn't be a)able to remember and b) haven't the time cus I would have to be sat here for hours!! Sorry! Its not that I don't love ya all its just I'm a lazy/busy moo! (and for some reason the emoticons aren't working for me).
From the last page or so here goes
baby boo- good to see you have been able to post, take care.
Feisty- be selfish! If you don't look out for yourself then no-one else will. Glad things are moving on for your DH and the shop.
Freespirit-fabulous lashes eh? Braver than me- I cant bear anyone by my eyes- its all I can do to put mascara on! Cant remember who posted about having their eyebrows threaded, but I HAVE to get mine done soon or I wont be able to see out! I am such a chicken when it comes to pain!!
OMO- yeah- my Christmas spirit seems to be in hiding too. I tried to watch Arthur Christmas - took me about 4 hours cus I was in and out and phone ringing , door going. I have been meaning to watch it for a few years - don't know why I bothered really (miserable trout that I am).
There just seems to be a lot going on at Chez Murie that is unsettling so I cant get into the 'zone' for Christmas.
I'm waiting for a Tesco clothing order (long story wish but Id never bothered!) so have a few mins to fill. Got DD and pals finishing school at 12 so they will be home wanting grub. taxi service tonight cus they are off to a concert but I THINK I have co-erced DS into taking them! (DH'has things to do' when I approached the subject-very convenient!). So it will be an afternoon of seventeen year old chatter interspersed with raids on the kitchen for me. (not by me unfortunately_ still doing SW and have lost over a stone (just) in 7 weeks)Woohoo!
Cant remember whose dad is having Chemo but big big hugs to you xxx
Aw thanks for missing me xlovin' this site!

Thanks all for the thoughts. Choccymoose thanks for the offer, to be honest, even if the chemo improves dad's quality of living, I think we only have a few months with him: this will certainly be our last Christmas with him
The type of cancer he has doesn't have much of a "successful recovery rate"
I will try and remember to post a piccie of snowed in hamper. In it I've put: - fleece blanket, thick socks and hot water bottle to keep them warm, 2 candles, a lighter and a wind up torch in case of a power cut, a bottle of beer each, tin of soup, packet of bread mix, coffee and a tin of biscuits as emergency food and a jigsaw puzzle to keep them occupied.0 -
There's a couple of things going on here too that are stopping me properly being able to get into it. I can do it for a bit, then it crops up and interferes with my Christmas again.
Those shopping centre decorations look AMAZING. Then I noticed where it was. I must immediately phone my mam and demand we go there once I'm at hers. We may end up going shopping on Christmas Eve which will of course be complete lunacy but I DON'T CARE.
Edit - his missus, Christmas wishes to you and your family that your dad feels better.0 -
where was the shopping centre with the lovely decorations??0

One of the photos had a sign in the background that said "Metrocentre". If I'm right in which one it is it's in Gateshead (next to Newcastle).0
