  • Evening all :santa2:

Had a lovely day today boring start as had to work for a couple of hours but after that popped into big sainsburys and bought a couple of bits in the toy sale then had breakfast.

Went to fliwer wholesaler and bought beautiful flowers for a wedding I'm doing at the weekend, my fave thing to do.

Then took DD along to local garden center this evening for mummy and me time. They opened their xmas dept so we went along for a brouse. Had mulled wine, orange juice in her case shes only 8, minces pies, homemade yum, all free. Then went in the cafe to treat her to hot choc and marshmallows. And to top it off we chose and bought a horse and carriage figurine thingy for our winter village, only started last year. Can't afford the buildings yet do just getting small bits.

Would post piccies but have no clue how :o

    61days 1 hr and 57 mins to go:xmastree::rudolf:

    Huge congratulations fluffysox

Looks like Christmas might be at my house this year. No one seems to know what each other is doing, and as we have just moved down from north Scotland, we have confused all usual plans.

If we did, I think I counted 18  that included 5 kids and a 8 month old baby.
While I love Christmas and we have the table and the room, I still think that's far too many people. Everyone has sort of discussed it and have agreed everyone would bring something, like the starters and pudding etc.
has anyone fed that many before in one sitting? How did it go and any tips?

Am waiting for MIl to check incase they are getting invited to my sil. If the did go there, then there would only be 11 of us.

I have. but ages ago. the year before my son was born so that was Christmas 1998. we had a really long garage at the time and we hired 2 long tables, table cloths and 20 chairs from a company. it was quite cheap and the chairs were gorgeous, but you had to book earlyish. they bought them a few days before...like the 21st or something. I know this sounds gross but it wasn't, but we put wrapping paper up all round the garage and stuck it up with blue tack, so it looked like wallpaper. it was a warm garage so there was not a problem with heat. we did something for carpeting, but I can't remember what. we got another tree and put it down there as well. some of the people bought plates. I had enough glasses. I think someone bought wine, someone bought a Christmas ham. the others gave money. so I cooked all of it. but I did have a range, with 2 ovens. I cooked the turkey on the Christmas eve night. it turned out really well. everyone helped to bring stuff in and out etc.

I would never do it again.

When I was a kid Christmas was massive. My grandfather was one of 5 and he had aunts the same age as him. For some reason they all used to end up at my Nans. She used to cook the Turkey and Gammon on Christmas Eve and ask if everyone could bring a big saucepan.

Starter was always something that didn't need cooking. (Prawn cocktail or pate on toast).
Because the meat was cooked the oven was free for roast potatoes potatoes, stuffing, pigs in blankets and roast veg.
Everything else was on the hob.

Cooking 40 potatoes is no different than cooking 10.

I remember spending hours peeling and putting crosses in spouts . :)

WARNING the people that make Baileys are sneaky. They put their drink in dark bottles so you don't know how much you have drunk ( says the woman who has drunk a litre in 2 and half hours)

One year my now ex got me a bottle of baileys for Christmas so I decided to have a glass while I made the dinner....an hour later the bottle was empty but the dinner was cooked perfectly :rotfl: I have no idea how I did it either, but I didn't even feel merry :o I now only drink wine or cheap whiskey in hot toddys. I feel the wine after about a glass :o:o

Christmas prep for me today has included picking up the @sda gift guide, handing it to my daughter with a pack of post-its and instructions to "go for it but shop for everyone and don't expect to get everything you ask for" ;) She's not done too bad, and I am very surprised to see that she hasn't asked for any DVDs, CDs or a smartphone! She has however asked for a bow & arrow...may speak to her dad about that one, we don't really have the room for her to play with it here, and he's the one who takes her the park etc ;)

I've also done some shopping for house bits and a stocking filler for daughter while I was putting my order through for work. Hopefully they'll arrive next week.

Now all I have to do is decide which Kind1e to buy her as her main gift, then I can get on with the other shopping. ;)

Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

One without ads! .. they are seriously annoying! Plus she can't buy anything anyway without your permission so they are pointless.
