Pinknfluffy help, ( DD has been doing a one year beauty therapy course L2 so only a bit was devoted to nails) I've been using almond oil to massage into hands and nails is that any good? I'm presently trying the OPI treatment varnish 'Envy' as my nails are in shocking condition and for some reason don't agree with cake decorating! Nails do seem a lot stronger. I don't know what a good gel polish is? Do you mean a shellac type varnish? BFF has just got a good deal on the lamp/drying thingie so she's bought me one too but I've not tried it yet. I'm a bit scared cos she really hurt herself removing the shellac- filed through her nail ouch:( So any advice would be amazing

I dread to think what will happen whilst you are in China if you pop to the garden centre on morning and all hell breaks loose! Your poor DGD, bless him bet he was sore todayThe sun has been out today here and dry days are forecast so I hope they manage to crack on with your garden tomorrow . Bless your DD too, I don't know as if she's not got enough to be coping with! Feisty is so right tho hopefully she'll get an allergy test and will be able to at least try to avoid her triggers. I've been asthmatic since I was seven but thankfully it's manageable - hoping your DDs is too. xxx

I was that exhausted last night I didn't get chance to post. Lovely friend (poorly one) was at the consultant for her six week check post treatment. She's doing so well, then realised I'd be in Oz when she gets the results of her scans. Don't think it'd really sunk in that we were off so needed a lot of reassuring. She has DP and loving family she's going to have lots of people around herthen tonight her DP calls to say he's leaving her:( OMG I haven't been able to talk to her yet but she's so not in a position to make life changing decisions at the moment, I'm hoping tomorrow to find it was just a row and everything has blown over. Night night xxx

Freespirit our posts must have crossed, I was thinking it was odd you'd not checked in
I've just had a peep on eBay and there are some turntables for less than a fiver including postage, if you are after one. Hardly ever remember to use mine, I've an ancient one from an elderly friend. You poor thing, suffering its no fun is it. Hope the sun shines for you on your chilling day tomorrow
I've had an unexpected bit of peace today too as DH decided at around lunchtime (after we'd shopped n done few jobs etc) that he'd go fishing for a couple of hours. I put my feet up and caught up on some more tv then read on the kindle app

Oh nana your poor friend
I understand how stressful it can be, being the partner/spouse of someone with such a severe illness, but I really can't understand how they could even consider leaving them at such at vulnerable time
Some lovely gift hampers going onI am in envy
Well have gradually been trying to wean myself off sleep in preparation for normal work routine Monday. I'm not a morning person, and switching from 9.30 (for the last month!) to 6.30 is going to kill me! Managed 7.30am today and have a splitting headachethere is improvement in DH!
fingers crossed it lasts
Hope everyone gets sunshine and has a lovely day[/COLOR]2024 Challenges

good morning, sun is shining and it looks inviting, might even get up! Thanks everyone for the sympathy and good wishes and advice for DD and DGS. Feisty, the dentist said just what you said, you clever thing, and that there wasn't any root damage showing. I'm not a morning person either, in fact, when I worked shifts I used to say that if I was ever suspected of murder, check what shift I'd been on and if it was mornings then I was guilty. Glad that DH is getting better, and you can go back to work.
Nanamia, Ha ha ha me as a wise old owl... my lot would fall about hysterically. They say my brain is like swiss cheese, (very bland and full of holes). Yes, I also wonder what disasters will befall them when I am away, but that's because I have 'issues with control' or so I'm told. Rotten for your brave friend, but if it isn't a spat she will be better off without a rat like that. At least if he goes now she won't be wasting energy on him, and wondering if he will leave this or next week.
The garden is gradually coming back into control,- I have gradually been making it low(er) maintenance, but as I can't stop growing/buying stuff for it I have containers everywhere which defeats the objective somewhat.
OMO glad your break was good, family photos? don't have any, haven't missed them, oh, just one of my great uncle who died in the great war. I never knew him, obviously, but my gran loved him and kept his photo on display all her life so I keep it cos I loved her.
Now, coffee and get up check on DGS see if he is any less sore today, xx0 -

My main area is massage & aromatherapy, but im mani/pedi trained & have recently completed my shellac course. Almond oil is a great choice, and should definitely strengthen nails. I havent tried OPI so cant comment sorry. I'm sorry to hear about the shellac removal issues. Was is definatly shellac? There are some "knock of" brands, namely bluesky, which whilst last and apply as beautifully as any or most gels, they are a nightmare to remove. I would be inclined to say keep your nails natural for the cake making as I'm guessing its dyes etc that cause reactions. But I would definately recommend eith shellac or gelish application. Shellac say you must use their brand of cleaner / uv lamp etc - but this is nonsense!
I have done over 20 applications now, using a "cheap" amazon lamp & (touch wood) have never had any issues. Heres my routine:
wash & completely dry hands
file & shape nails, buff nail plates
apply nail primer (to dehydrate)
apply thin layer shellac base coat & cure for 10 secs
apply thin layer of shellac colour & cure for 2 mins
apply 2nd layer shellac colour & cure for 2 mins
apply very thin layer shellac top coat & cure for 2 mins
wipe with a gel cleanse lotion to remove sticky layer & voila!
To remove, I soak cotton balls in acetone, cover each nail 7 hold in place with sergical strip. Leave for 10 mins & the shellac then literally peels right off, there should be no need to file or scrape at it!
Hope this helps, sorry its so long & I hope I don't sound like I am preaching !It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -
Oooohh Pinknfluffy thank you so so much. You've given me lots to think about
Think BFFs shellac removal was of shellac nails she had done at the salon off you check
Thanks again

pinknfluffy thank you for that
I like having purdy nail art, do you know if shellac is compatible with konad varnishes? I'm about to invest in the stamping set, but due to my job (and constant cleaning) my nails are always splitting
I'm tempted to use shellac to protect them, but still want them purdy

Hi I was a lurker on last years xmas thread and got some great ideas off there. I don't get on here much but will be following again. I just wondered if anyone could give me some ideas. In January this year we decided we wanted to do something really different for Christmas and I thought about Disneyland paris. We booked it for new year and are keeping it a secret from our 4 kids until xmas day. As you can imagine we are spending a lot of money on this trip so this will be their only present from us, apart from a going away goody bag (bag or suitcase) to go with the holiday. My question is what can we put in the bags/suitcases? The kids will be between 10 and 3 for the holiday.
I thought about a wash bag with 'grown up' bits in, some new clothes for the whole trip, an autograph book and pen and a camera. Any more ideas would be great. This bag is for the journey there and back (on the ferry) and the trip.
