This might be very silly and totally impractical for a birthday party but I've bought modelling clay before in fairly large pieces, quite cheap. Could you maybe break sections off in little bags with nice labels for the kids to make hand-prints in? More for the parents I know but a nice keepsake easily achieved. I've done something similar with kids at events in an previous job so know the air-drying stuff would be suitable but not sure about other kinds of clay. I suppose you'd have to have the right sort of friends - some of mine would definitely roll their eyes at that type of thing "participation AND crafty frippery...URGH!" :rotfl:

PS OK, couldn't resist putting 'teddy bears picnic' into the search field on Pinterest...oh my word so many cute ideas!!

Never too early to party-plan!! :j

It's not very teddy bear themed but for all kids parties I make Racing Cars - the body of the car is a sponge finger (the crispy ones you might use in a trifle) then using icing or melted chocolate you stick on four smarties for tyres and - this is the brutal bit - cut the legs off a jellybaby to use the top half of their body as the driver. I usually ice the age of the child on the front of the car too, to look more like a racing car!

The bonus is you get to eat all the jellybaby legs!

I'm sure there's lots of other crafty things you could do. I'll keep an eye out but you should put teddy bear's picnic into Pinterest. (I have to resist as once I've pinterest-ed then I'm there all night!!)

Those cars sound brilliant thank you. If I don't use them I am definitely suggesting them to my sister for nephew's send birthday!

These links are amazing! Never really used Pinterest before but I'm already hooked. Must go finish my work (design bespoke wedding stationery in my own time) but I am going to be looking at all of these tomorrow :j
Island_mum you could put some Haribo's golden bears in the party bags.

You might be lucky and find some of the Lindt golden bears left over from Christmas stock that could also go in.

Ooh I'm going hunting for Lindt bears! I don't really know what 1 year olds will eat (it's so hard to imagine how much DD will change in next 3 months) but I'm sure the mums can help if babies won't eat them :rotfl:

Isn't there crisps that are the shape of bears ?

I love Pom bears! I will have to stock up on those, great idea thank you!!!
Island_mum-For DS' 1st birthday party I put little chocolate bars in, (possibly buttons) a board book, rattle and few other bits. I split up multipacks of the books and rattles and it was really cheap. What about bath ducks? You could split up packs of those, you can get them in pound shops. Oh and bubbles, chunky crayons and a colouring book. Also might be worth looking out for little cuddly toys left over after valentines etc in supermarkets, I often get themn for about 30p. x
P.S There's teddy bears picnic party boxes on ebay plus cake toppers, plates, stickers etc and things like garlands on ebay. x

eBay here I come haha. Thank you!

I got your PM thank you so much. I'm going to have a look tomorrow and see if Argos will post to me or not.

Thank you for everybody's brilliant ideas, I'm so excited now :T

  • Im sure the party will be amazing Island_mum, I love organising kids parties. :)

Just reserved a few things at Argos including this christmas baking tray! :j ://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=1500002951&langId=110&productId=803246

Am also going to buy my Nan a pop up tree as she didnt have one this year, I think due to space constraints. (sheltered accomodation) They have some for £10 (6ft) and £9.99. (3ft) http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/POP+UP+TREE.htm Im extremely tempted by the white tree with bright decorations for my room, only £10. (not pop up one, they have another one) Hmmm. :D

  • Evening everyone, well i got rid of the cba feeling and managed to get a bit of cleaning done, then after dinner DD1 was suddenly in agony with a pain sort of stomach area, she was also being sick, and was very clammy, and was finding it hard to breathe we phoned the gp ooh and because she has just come back from india he said get her to a&e, so my DD2 took her, and her oesophagus had gone into spasm, causing awful pain, so she has tablets and he said it may take a few days to calm down :(
