Because the older 85Mbps Homeplug standard is a little slow for carrying video around your network. All the new plugs are 200 or 500MBps anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks. The reason I ask is I'm going for a wired solution. I've ordered CAT 5 cable which in theory is only good to 100Mbps. That's all my router is capable of though and my BB speed is approx 6Mbps. Hopefully should be OK.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

You are confusing your line speed with your network speed-two entirely different things. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Agree they are different things but surely if my line speed is 6Mbps, that will be the overall limit for youview streaming? Am I misunderstanding?Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Yes, but you may also wish to stream other content to your TV that you already have on your network. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Also think of it as future-proofing-you might be on a faster broadband connection in a year or two.
PSL an 85Mbps Homeplug will probably give you a 'real world' speed of less than 20Mbps; the quoted speeds are purely theoretical. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I've yet to encounter any problems streaming HD to either of these plugs, but wonder if there is anything I could do to improve the potential performance of the 240 plug?0 -
If you have another 200 or 85Mbps Homeplug on the same network, then the whole lot will only run at the speed of the slowest device.
But it sounds like one device is maybe in a 'noisy' area? Are they all plugged direct into wall sockets and not into trailing extension leads? No free lunch, and no free laptop0
