Youview box but no working aerial?

More fool me for answering yes to the question 'Do you have a working outside aerial' for when TalkTalk come and install the Youview box.
I thought I did but never bothered to check as I was juggling an angry toddler whilst on the phone upgrading. Will it be okay with an indoor aerial? Upstairs tv is with an indoor aerial and the picture is perfect.
I'm now just worried that the engineer will turn up and tell me off....Don't particularly want to pay for an aerial to be install in a house that I will only be living in for another 6 months

You might be lucky - but you'll not be able to cancel within the minimum term if you don't. Leave the portable aerial ready when the installer comes.0

What do you use to watch TV currently in that room? Why can't you now check if the aerial point is working (or bring the upstairs TV down to check it)?
A room aerial works better in an upstairs room than in a ground floor... also tends to be better on the side of the house nearest the transmitter rather than one blocked by walls.
I doubt the TT installer will give a fig about the box's off air reception - he/she will be concerned with getting the broadband router installed and connected and the box attached to the TV set. This will allow you to access TV programmes off the internet even if you can't watch or record off air...

Very unlikely to work well without a proper external aerial. YouView is an 18m contact, why did you sign up to that unless you are planning to take it with you in 6m, otherwise you'll have a hefty ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

To be fair a lot of people are probably taking the youview package now just for the hell of it.
For instance I have talktalk broadband and phone due to unexplained problems in bt exchange with their equipment.
I lost my internet and was getting nowhere fast.
Talktalk has been about twice the dl speed anyway.
My tv is with sky and I am perfectly happy staying that way (have a good deal). My aerial reception is crap in my area.
However now that TalkTalk are in effect giving the freeview box away with free installation on the extended contract I am tempted to take it.
Why because I wont be leaving talktalk anyway. No increase on subscription.
If it is a useless bit of kit for my needs then it can be flogged for a pretty penny on Ebay.
No downside for me.0 -

I wouldn't cancel anyway as I've just got rid of my Tivo box so would only be on Freeview as it is.What do you use to watch TV currently in that room? Why can't you now check if the aerial point is working (or bring the upstairs TV down to check it)?

I currently have an upstairs television with an indoor aerial, and then a downstairs television that is hooked up to Tivo which runs out today. I will just get another indoor aerial and see if it works well on the downstairs television. I live in the centre of Leeds and have never had a problem with signal, its always been perfect.Very unlikely to work well without a proper external aerial. Well I don't see a downside either, I've just left Virgin so I was only going to be getting a freeview + box if not the talktalk boxMoney money money.

Any Homeplugs will carry the broadband signal, go for a minimum sped of 200Mbps.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
Why is 200Mbs required?
Opps, he meant 2Mbps. Heck, I'd love 200Mbps! :rotfl:
For YouView from BT - 2.5meg is required (for now). For YouView from TalkTalk, 5meg is required. Retail YouView boxes also require 2.5meg, although they do recommend 3Mbps to get a reliable connection.0 -
No I said 200Mbps (as opposed to some of the older 80Mbps Homeplugs, which are still around). No free lunch, and no free laptop0
