that sounds yum, is it something you've tried before?

yes, one of my faves - sometimes in the oven if i'm in a rush, but because i like the potatoes to break down it's in there ages and must use loads of electric.

it turned out lovely in the slow cooker (8 hours on high!), may try preparing it the night before next time and cooking on low for about 12 hours. i just covered the veg with water and the consistency was good. if you're feeling really stodgy, dumplings go nicely with it too! x

  • Not sure what it's gonna be like but I'm using the left-over stock from 2 smallish gammon joints I did in there yesterday.

Re-cycling the onions/ carrots/ celery/ potatoes that were in there and bunged a couple of handfuls of washed lentils in there...it's kinda like a recipe I've got in one of my books so I've stuck some chilli flakes in there in homage to the original recipe in the book.

Around 4.30 I should have something half decent - fingers crossed for me, please

I am so hoping Santa is going to bring me a slow cooker. I have hinted to all his little helpers.

I hinted very strongly and despite DH not understanding why in the world I wanted one, I got it.

Have potatoes, carrots and a pork shoulder roast in mine. Added a bit of stock, some rosemary and ground black pepper to it. It's smelling wonderful. DH asked would it take 4 days to cook. He's so silly.:rotfl:

No recipe - just made it up! Bag of yellow stickered pears from Morrison 25p - took two, halved them lengthways and dug out core/chopped off stalk etc. Put in slow cooker with good glug of wine, I just sloshed in it until it was maybe 1/2 cm full, then added 1/3 heaped teaspoon of cinnamon. (With hindsight, I should have mixed the cinnamon into the wine BEFORE adding both to the slow cooker!). It's been cooking now for 4 hours on low, it smells divine and looks ready. Can't wait to try it!
Update - just tried it, I think the pears needed slightly longer cooking - I think I'll try 5-6 hours on low next time. But the spiced wine was just right -delicious!
2nd update - this time did the pears for 6 hours on low - PERFECT!!!
