I was just wondering, did the jacket potatoes turn out more like potatoes boiled in their jackets or like baked potatoes....I'm assuming the potato skin doesn't go crispy like in the oven (that's the bit I like ;))

When I did it the skin didn't go crispy, but they weren't like boiled potatoes either, because they had a fluffy inside. The skin was just like it would be if you'd boiled potatoes and kept them warm for a bit. I like the skin crispy too, but sc-baked potatoes are still good - just different - and the sc is certainly a convenient way of doing it if you're out all day, or if you've people coming in to eat at different times, for example.

You could always unwrap them and give them a blast in a hot oven at the end if you really wanted to crisp them up.

I rubbed the skins with a little bit of salt before wrapping the potatoes in foil, which I think added to the taste. Others have mentioned rubbing them with butter.

Hi all... i'm new to this slow cooker business.

I bought one today... a cheapo one from Tesco, and it didn't come with any instructions or recipes, so I'm wondering if there are any tips anyone has.

The only meat I'm not keen on is pork, unless it's sausage style. In the freezer I have beef. lamb, salmon and turkey so I'd like to know if anyone has any favourite recipes for any of these. :)

Also, are there any tips for like adding pasta or rice? My cooker has 3 settings, low, high and warm.

    All help appreciated!

Hi I got one of these at xmas so far have only used it twice last night was bolgnaise and I was going to attempt a whole chicken today but the chicken is too big for the pot!

I have two, an oval one and a smaller tall one. chicken only fits in the oval one for me.

maybe you could break the legs off to fit in ?

Last nights condoction cooked great. took the beef steaks out this morning and added more gravey granules.
Will attempt to put Tex Mex on them later and lightly fry in a pan. not expecting too much as they are so tendering and waiting to fall into a million pieces

  • Hello. I'm always unsure about cooking vegetables in the SC. If I was doing a stew, would I need to parboil the veggie first?

I do jacket spuds in the SC all the time. I just pop them in on low, with a little water, and leave all day.

I then pop them into a hot oven for 20 mins, to crisp the skins, while I prep the tuna, cheese, etc, and salad. They're delicious, and I have a family meal in 20 minutes.
