I did beef casserole. The vegs needed using up - I had onions, leeks, turnip and carrots and popped some pearl barley in too. It was nice and the good news is we have enough for tomorrow too :T

    Hi,

I've just found a recipe for spotted !!!!!! in the January 2010 Asda magazine which has taken my fancy.

You can find the online version here: http://www.asdamagazine.com/2009/12/happy_ever_afters/

I'd like to make this in the slowcooker, and I wonder whether anyone could give me some advice on the amount of time to cook this for (either high or low power)?

I've found this post http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=46441&postcount=42, which suggests overnight for a Christmas pudding.

I'll try 8 hours on high if there are no further suggestions.

Also is it strictly necessary to cover it with clingfilm, as I'd prefer to put a bit of tinfoil over the top instead? Some of the old recipes for it suggest boiling it in cheesecloth, so I wouldn't have thought that a little bit of steam would hurt it! I don't like the idea of clingfilm being in contact with food as it cooks, and dumplings rise fine in a wet heat!

    Thanks

Thanks for replying. My Cookworks SC has 3 settings, Low, High, and Auto. It is the Auto timings that i am seeking help with as i recall these were different from the other two settings?

I have tried contacting Argos to get a replacement copy, but they do not seem interested in helping me, hence the original post!

    Regards, Laner

I believe that I've seen details somewhere that the auto setting puts the cooker into high power mode for a couple of hours to get it going, and then down to the low power setting after that.

Might be worth having a look here http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/device/slow_cooker.html for a missing manual. They don't have cookworks, but I bet you'll find that they are nearly all identical.

Hi Annie, I was thinking the same... had a quick sniff round the internet and probably letting them thaw first is a good idea so they don't lower the temperature of the crock pot.... oh now found some that suggest putting all frozen in first!

    Anyone got any ideas?

OK, it's in. I found that about an extra 75ml of milk was needed to get a dough. I've split it between two old plastic Christmas pudding basins, and I'm leaving it in on full for a couple of hours then turning it down to low.

I'll let you know how it turned out.

  • Gammon with some onion and carrots in mine today which will go in with my lentils and tatties for some soup tonight yummy!!
  • Pork steaks with mushroom sauce http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/1921/mushroom-pork-chops.aspx except I cooked mine in the slow cooker for about 5 hrs.

Went down well in this household....DH peered through the lid of the slow cooker when he came in from work....."what have you created today then?!" Hmm I think he may be suggesting that my slow cooker use is turning into a daily habit!

The sauce is yum mixed with rice, bit like risotto.
