  • I've got chilli beef and beans in mine today, should be lovely and tender by the time I get home from work tonight.

Some kind of small beef joint, didn't look at the label, was too distracted by the big yellow whoopsie sticker :D in very thick beef gravy.

Got a lamb shoulder for tomorrow for less than £3 too :D

  • Thanks to you old stylers, i used my new tesco slow cooker for the first time last night, and had 1/6 of the result for dinner :D stewing steak, a whole diced squash, splash of red wine, gravy, loads of different veg, onions and garlic, ended up like boeuf bourgignon and OH said it might be the best dinner that "I" ever made! it wasn't me, it was those eight hours of slow cooking!! ;)
    Cheers all

  • I've found a recipe for Spicy Chicken Curry online with great reviews so going to try it for tonight (using turkey instead though!) It looks pretty hot so I don't think we'll be able to taste the meat anyway. I've just counted and there are 21 ingredients! This had better be good...
  • Celery soup.I can't bear it but OH will eat this till the cows come home. So easy and no wastage here.I made it clear-ish but you can also make it Cream of Celery too

I put some sliced potatoes (thick slices, about 1cm) in the bottom of mine last night, put a lamb shoulder on top, smeared it with mint sauce and then added 1pint of thick minty lamb gravy. Left it on low from 10pm last night till 5pm today and oh my god it was goooooood. Potatoes were perfect, never done them like that before but because it was just on low they were cooked without going to mush :D

That sounds like something I'd like to try. But without the mint. :o
Do you think any other flavour would work as well? Garlic and rosemary maybe?

I plan to make a chilli tomorrow in the SC I know I need to brown off the mince first but then can I just throw everything else in? How long do I need to leave it on for?

I might go dig out the SC now and try some rice pud :D

So long as your red beans are tinned, then yes throw everything else in. I put mine on low 6hours and medium 4hours.
Today in my SC I have beef stew mostly veg, but smells delic! Been on low since 10 a.m should be lovely by 6pm. Will add dumplings at around 5pm.:j

A really good rice pudding is 100g of pudding rice 100g sugar 1 litre of milk 20g butter

use some of the butter to grease pot. add all ingredients and give a stir. leave for about 4 -5 hours or till it is as thick as you want. I made this yesterday and DH would have licked the pot if he could:rotfl: everyone else enjoyed it too.

I am stealing your recipe for rice pudding, just put it on now but have used a tin of evaporated milk and topped upto 1litre with normal milk Will report back later if it doesn't taste awful lol
