I have thrown in the last of the chopped carrots i had, two red onions, a pack of bacon pieces that were reduced at morrisons, 3 cloves of garlic, red lentils and filled with stock. Smell is gorrgeous but we have not long had our roast for the day so no picking at it yet.

    Old faithful in mine today

2 packs of browned mince, one chopped onion 3 peppers chopped couple of handfuls of green lentils, 2 cartons of passata, 1 tablespoon of sugar, salt & pepper, tablespoon of bisto best and 1 tspn chilli

served with a 'tex mex' pack from tesco that was ys'd and frozen (£2.50 for 75 pieces)

This served 8 of us with enough chilli left over to top jacket potatoes tomorrow.

I also stewed some apples that were on the turn today in the little slow cooker with a couple of tablespoons of sugar and water. will mush it when I get round to it and freeze it to go with the pork thats in the freezer.

Pammie can you do jacket spuds in the microwave (or just use the mash from them) can the yorkies be done in there as well??
Not sure about the chicken as never done a whole chicken in there before
I want to start doing more than stews and mince in mine.
I do love the smell so even if we are home I still like to do something in there.

Bought a cooked chicken reduced today so didnt use mine today but might buy a recipe book and widen my horizons :D

    Chicken in the slow cooker:

Put an inch of chicken stock in the slow cooker and add in some rough chopped onion and mixed herbs. Sit the chicken on top of the onion and cook it on low for around 7 hours.

    Veg: steamer

Potoatoes: Make jacket potatoes in the microwave, then scrape out the potato and fluff up with a bit of butter to make a kind of mash.

Yorkshire puds ... hmm, no idea - unless your microwave happens to be a combi oven then I don't see a way these can be done. Unless you buy them ready cooked and try heating them in the microwave.

Gravy could be made from a packet and boiling water from kettle.

Stuffing doesn't particularly need browning, so could be made with a packet stuffing and boiling water from the kettle.

Alternatively, go round to a relative's and get them to cook for you!

    ;)

    Ok - so.....

Followed a receipe from my lovely book (photo of the book few posts above) - followed it exactly and.....

    Took the chicken out.

It says in the book "carve the chicken" - but.. there was nothing to carve as the chicken has completely fallen to pieces and had to fish some pieces out of the liquid.

The chicken tastes great but all looks a complete mess, nothing at all like on the photo in the book :(

It did say to make sure the chicken and the veggies are completely covered with liquid while cooking, it was a whole chicken when I started and put it in the SC - it was bits and pieces when I took it out.

5 hours on high, as in the receipe.

    Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :(
  • My chicken always ends up like that too. i find the bones break themselves, everything being so tender n all.
5hours on high? I had mine on low but overnight. id expect 5hours on low for still to be done
