Well, you're not *supposed* to, but I do this all the time and have never had any problems :o so long as it's piping hot.

Slow Cooker is full of scouse today, but did so much veg and used a huge pack of shin beef that not enough room for all of it - SC is 6.5l as well . Now the Pressure Cooker is on too - will need to re-jig the contents as soon as the PC has 'done it's stuff' :rotfl:.

OH and I won't be eating until this evening, BUT DD and her b/f will be here this afternoon. Will definitely be able to feed them with some from the PC :j. Anything left over can cool down and go in the freezer for another day .

Can anyone please tell me if you have to soak and cook chickpeas before putting them in the SC? I tried (and failed :rotfl:) searching on the thread but I'm sure it's been mentioned on here.

I'm going to do a mexican chicken concoction with a packet mix thats lurking in the back of the cupboard and will bulk it out with dried chickpeas but I usually buy tinned ones and in the name of moneysaving decided to go for a packet of dried ones but don't know what to do with them!

    Thank :D

This website recommends soaking overnight: http://www.ehow.com/how_4415956_prepare-dried-chickpeas-cooking.html

just wondering if they need a little boiling first before going in the slow cooker. Some people on that site have said they take ages to cook even on the hob.

Thanks Olliebeak, had a look and it doesn't really say if you need to cook them prior to adding to a casserole but as you say they take forever to cook so I don't know what to do

However the link you posted did have a yummy sounding chick pea curry (using tinned chick peas :rotfl:) which I will have to try, mmmnnnnn

  • Last year I cooked my christmas turkey in my slow cooker (it was a huge boneless breast that filled a 5.7L pot) and it turned out great - nice and tender. I'm going to do the same this year, but can't remember how I did it.

I'm thinking of an inch of chicken stock, mixed herbs, onions and carrots; then sitting the turkey on top and cooking on low for about 8 hours on low. Any thoughts?

I was also wondering about trying to brown it off afterwards in the oven ... although it is skinless and I'm not sure this will work?
  • Pork with apples, carrots, spuds, onions and a bit of apple juice.

I soak mine overnight and then do them in the slow cooker all day or overnight on auto. I usually do chicken and chick pea curry.
