Shoulder of Pork, not sure what I'm doing with it yet.

It smelt horrible, looked horrible and tasted horrible. First and last time I have ever bought a shoulder.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I've never had a lot of sucess with pork in a SC.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

HM chilli con carne minus kidney beans today as kids dont eat them and it seems pointless to pput them in for kids to pick them all back out again.

I do that all the time, I think I'm still alive though? I've only done it when it's only been vegetables in the stew though. I fill my slow cooker with stew, then eat some throughout the day, and if there's some left leave it over night and reheat in the next day in the slow cooker.
Can you get food poisoning from vegetables? I've reheated it more than twice before as well.
I'm always too lazy to take it out the slow cooker and put it in the fridge, plus that would mean more washing up.

I think a lot of people are far too cautious, I use the micro or a pan for reheating as it's quicker basically.

Beef and vegetable soup, made from blended beef stew I had in the freezer, plus tomatoes, dried pulses, garlic, black pepper, and herbs. I will serve with HM bread.

As I had already previously cooked the beef stew, I am guilty of reheating in my SC today, but we were fine last time I did it, and I will cook on high setting for a few hours.

well I have just chucked in browned mince and onions, and 2 tins of toms, carrots and peas. Hope it turns out ok. Not sure what to have with it, pasta or potatoes?
Its a quickie as kids will have swimming after school, so maybe pasta is better as its quicker to do, not sure if i could put pots in with that lot.
Maybe soften them first before I pick the kids up and then put them in?
Im a rubbish cook as you can tell :o

Sounds fine. Savoury mince with pasta, or you could make a quick cottage pie, by putting mashed potatoes on top and grilling for a few minutes.

Had salsa chicken in the sc all day, ate it in tortilla wraps for dinner. Was good :-)

Salsa Chicken sounds gorgeous, do you have the recipe?

I found this thread earlier in the year, and went and bought a SC, made a pork casserole that was only fit for the bin and i havent used it since, but now its getting cold again and i have a newborn, i think i might start using it.

My newborn has a habit of screaming the house down at the crucial point of cooking or getting it on the plate, hence to say that we have had quite a few burnt meals over the last few weeks.

I think the error i made with my pork casserole was that i didnt brown the pork off so i could smell half cooked meat all day that put me off.

If i put something in to cook at say 9.30am will it be ready for about half 4. As i really cant get it in the pot before 9.30 and the kids like their tea about half 4 to 5 o'clock.

Yeah 930-430 would be perfect. Personally I would cook on low for that amount of time - i think high would be too high for that long but that's just from my experience.

Sorry to hear the pork didn't do well. I have frozen whoopsied pork in the freezer and am reluctant to cook it as I don't think i like it.... I'm not sure! I think you have just put me off cooking it he he!

My chicken jalfrezi was lovely. I added extra water and about 5 handfuls of lentils . have never cooked chicken on the bone before in the SC so it was nice to see it fall off, and to have to fish the bones out (if slightly odd!)

Tonight I am making Blue peter soup overnight I think. carrot onion and parsnip with tinned toms and stock. Recipe lurking about if anyone wants just ask

Jalfrezi was 6 thighs, and i reckon I got 4-5 portions so all in all pretty impressive. Will portion it out tonight !
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
