Update - 1lb 5oz of yummy ham that's good enough for sarnies or family meals (probably not good enough for impressing Aunty Sally though)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • I have the bones from my roast chicken in my SC today with a little veg and water for stock, will be making chicken noodle soup with it tomorrow evening.

Have had it in the SC since 7pm... was going to leave it until 11pm but not sure if i should keep it in longer.

Diced lamb, potatoes, carrots, swede, leeks, sweet potatoes, lentils, 2 pints of stock. Can't wait for tea as the weather is a little inclement here.
wasn't cooked  It had been on from 7;15 till 19:00 on low but the carrots were still al dente. Had it on for a couple of hours on high now leaving it overnight....

Can anyone recommend a 6.5l cooker?

    cheers

  • I did a (reduced) rolled breast of lamb in red wine with a bay leaf, stock cube and onion. Stuck some gravy granules in when it was done and had it with mash...mmmm!

Gizmo, I threw them in with some leeks that were needng used, some carrots, and half a cup of water. I left it on all day, maybe too long ?I wish I could get the hang of cooking  that's why I bought the crockpot, so I wouldnt have to COOK but I still manage to mess it up !:D:D

Maybe more water to keep them covered - I've left chops in all day long on low and they've been fine but I did have a lot of liquid to start.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

Did chilli last night for eating at work and home through the week. I forgot to buy kidney beans though - can you believe that? I thought what the heck I'll do it without. Was going to add some washed baked beans but decided not to bother in the end.

Left it overnight on low and it seems to be cooked this morning. Left it out to cool will reheat some to eat tonight and freeze some more for later in the week. Really annoyed with it!!!! Ended up having to have a couple of pizzas we had in the freezer which were OK but not what I really wanted.

Red thai curry on today, some chicken, onions, garlic and sauce.
  • I think this thread makes it obvious that slow cookers vary considerably. I had one back in the seventies and things didn't cook properly, they were always undercooked. I gave up in the end and used a pressure cooker instead. However, I now have a 4.5L Prestige SC and I have never had anything undercooked or burnt. I always use the auto setting that, according to my handbook, is 4 hours on high and then on low. I work night shifts and my SC is often on for 14 hours overnight.

I'm still experimenting, but I wouldn't like to be without a SC.
