Hmm didn't quite work, there was burnt stuff up the sides and a slightly burnt smell to the bolognaise. We think this may have been the wine... should we add this later for the last 1/2 hour? it was on for approx 12hrs on low.. or was this too long maybe? we only did one portion, should we maybe do a larger batch next time (which is what I m thinking)?
Stew for the weekend I think...
the oil idea above is a good one, as is filling your SC to the brim...may as well make as much as you can for the (minimal) effort - then you can freeze the leftovers. the wine sounds good and i think it's fine to bung it in at the beginning, as you want all the alcohol to burn off...Mortgage free as of 11/11/15 !
:Anow... to start some serious saving :A

minniepoos wrote: »Nothing in mine today, as having a hm lasagne with hm wedges out of the freezer, but yesterday I had diced pork, chopped carrots, parsnips, cauliflower and brussel sprouts (coz they were lurking in the fridge!) with a jar of tomato & herb pasta sauce and a bit of stock (and a sprinkling of indian spices). It was really lovely - maybe a bit wet but I worry that if I don't put any stock in there won't be enough liquid to cook the veg. So if anyone can put my mind at rest I'd be grateful!
On the plus side though, I now have some really nice soup in the freezer!
I freeze the excess sauce and then when I do a roast and have left over meat I use it for the gravy for the leftovers. So a pork casserole sauce will be poured over slices of pork and served with rice/potatoes and bring the meat to life again, same with beef and lamb etc.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

Just a question tho, does anyone have any good recoomendations for a slow cooker recip book...not for me but for my mum as we bought her a slow cooker a couple of years and shes pretty clueless on what to put it in it. Dad and brother will only eat plain food tho so not a fancy book, just one with some good meat and 2 veg recipes really
Loads of recipies on here - and a slow cooker will basically cook anything you put in. Would think chicken and veg and beef and veg would be good for mum, as well as soups and whole joints.Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.0 -

Hi
After all the talk of yummy rice pud this last week I want to make some. The trouble is that OH doesn't like it and both sons are at the other end of the country (well the North West anyway ) So can anyone tell me whether it will keep overnight (rice pud for brekkie?) so that I could make a batch to eat in a couple of meals.
Just looking out of the window makes me want winter food today
Have a lovely day everyone

It'll keep overnight in the fridge. Once it's cooled put it in a sealed continer and bung it in the fridge.
I'm wondering whether it's ok to FREEZE though, as I'd like to make a batch and freeze it in portions.0
