I used to love fresh coriander, but I think that I overdid it once, and now only put a tiny amount in. We use garam masala in most stews now, because it seems to warm the flavours up. Do you notice that different brands of garam masala/madras masala/tandoori masala vary a lot in flavour?

Yes, it is offputting when you've added too much, as it has such a distinctive flavour. Thats why I prefer to use garam masala (for added zing). My preference is Tesco's own. I have tried other brands, but the ingredients vary enormously, and Tesco's is my fave for adding a bit extra, without being overpowering. I cannot recommend enough. I use for chillis, soups, stews, curries, etc.

Thanks for that! Mine was a bit different, I used 2oz rice, 1oz sugar, a pint of milk, good shaking of ground nutmeg and buttered the slow cooker bowl. It did turn out lovely in the end, I just had a bowl of it :D

Your recipe sounds nice, I'll have to give it a go with evaporated milk next time.

Glad you liked it, mine took a wile to turn from milk liquid into rice pud too.
The evaporated milk make it taste creamy.

    Everyone...
I somehow managed to convert ladies on the little local bus Monday to use a slow cooker. It was just before 5pm and they were all saying what they were going to cook for tea. I said I had dinner sorted as it was in the SC and when I got in, had only to boil a bit of rice to go with the sweet and sour Pork. It got them thinking and some saying they had one in the back of the cupboard they were going to get out!
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

Lamb mince, onions, garlic, carrots, peas, parsnip, tomatoes, veg stock, rosemary, black pepper, allspice, cumin, dollop ketchup, flour, and soya sauce, for shepherds pie (to be finished in the oven).

I want to try my new breadmaker today, but I have only got active dry yeast (not the instant sort), and only fresh milk (not dried), so it will be interesting to see if it works with what I have.

Just a question tho, does anyone have any good recoomendations for a slow cooker recip book...not for me but for my mum as we bought her a slow cooker a couple of years and shes pretty clueless on what to put it in it. Dad and brother will only eat plain food tho so not a fancy book, just one with some good meat and 2 veg recipes really :)
