  • Yesterday must have been the day for rice pudding because I had one in my SC too. Mine was virtually the same as everyone elses except I grate lemon zest into mine as well.
Done this ever since reading it in a Delia book and it gives a very delicate lemony freshness to the pud. Lovely!

Today all I have in the SC is the yucky remains of the rice pud clinging to the sides. Forgot to wash it up last night! :(

    AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE   £115.93/ £250

  • Meatballs. 500g turkey mince, garlic, breadcrumbs, tin of chopped tomatoes, half courgette and carrot, 1/2 cup of stock and red wine, tsp sugar, mixed herbs, tomato puree which made about 30 meatballs so there should be some to freeze.

Problem is I now feel hungry...
  • any good recoomendations for a slow cooker recip book...not for me but for my mum as we bought her a slow cooker a couple of years and shes pretty clueless on what to put it in it. Dad and brother will only eat plain food tho so not a fancy book, just one with some good meat and 2 veg recipes really :)

Well books don't really cater to plain food do they?

I bought the Ultimate Slow Cooker from the Book People for £4 which is good or you could try this really expensive £1.98 one from Amazon ;)One Pot Dishes
  • Nothing in there for me today The steak and kidney pudding was really good.

    Anniemf,

I've got Slow Cooking by Katie Bishop Its quite basic and was only £2.99.From a book outlet. I've also got the one by the book people for £4 but find the other one more helpful.

Bolognaise - mince, tomatoes, tom puree, garlic salt, bay leaves, salt, pepper, henderson's relish, red wine. Hopefully I will come home after badminton to a nice thick bolognaise sauce :j
Hmm didn't quite work, there was burnt stuff up the sides and a slightly burnt smell to the bolognaise. We think this may have been the wine... should we add this later for the last 1/2 hour? it was on for approx 12hrs on low.. or was this too long maybe? we only did one portion, should we maybe do a larger batch next time (which is what I m thinking)?

Stew for the weekend I think...

last night I was going to do a spag bol - browned the mince and threw it in the pot, cut the onions and threw them in, herbs and spices - all in, went to get a tin of chopped tomatoes but must have used the last tin the other night!!! gutted!!! really couldnt be bothered to go out and get some so have put some sweetcorn, peas and carrots in and will make a cottage pie later!!

With fairly liquid sauces the spatter around the bowl can tend to cause this (its not the wine as I put it in at the outset) but its easily avoidable - I just brush the whole of the inside of the SC with oil before putting anything in. Makes washing up very easy too ;)

Oh and the meatballs were a hit again, I think I may give up on beef meatballs as the turkey ones are so well received.
  • chicken casserole in mine - went through the fridge to use all the veg that were starting to look a bit sad!
    :jFlylady and proud of it:j
