I've converted my other half to a whole chicken done in the Slo_Cooker!

Didn't add any liquid as advised, just seasoning, and it was delicious :D

My slow cookers have been busy today! In the smaller one this morning I poached some fish in milk and water in preparation for a fish pie for tomorrow. In the large slow cooker I put some stewing steak which had been dipped in seasoned flour and browned first with some onion, water and bisto best gravy granules and cooked for 4 hours on high and 2 on low. Some went into a pie the rest went into the freezer for dinner later in the week.

Now in the large one I have some mince braising which will be frozen for dinners later this week.

  • stew of one carrot, 2 parsnips, half a small white cabbage, the stalk off a head of broccoli, a handful of baby new potatoes - all chopped very fine, a bouquet garni, two ham stock cubes, some water and a roast red pepper from a jar.... smells lovely!

added some passata as well and now it's a bit liquidy, so have got some butter beans on soaking to cook separately and add tomorrow when reheating...

    In my slow cooker today....

1 Packet Sainsbury's Casserole Beef (2 for £6) that I browned with some flour, oxo cubes, black pepper and a little mustard.
Most of a bag of potatoes.
10 Smart Price onions, chopped up (Yeah...we love onions here)
A 500g packet of ready to use julienne carrots that were reduced to 15p in ASDA and looked a bit dry and manky.. lol
Splash of red wine from a 25cl bottle that I keep in the cupboard for cooking.
A packet of Colman's Beef Bourguignon Casserole Mix (3 for £2, ASDA)

Threw it all in at 8.30am and aiming to have a delicious dinner at 6pm with some HM bread rolls, which I'll make using a small ready mix that was reduced to 12p. Result!

  • Chicken going in mine, too , once DH has cleaned out the crockpot from last nights Irish Stew and dumplings (which was YUM!)

Planning on doing Cooking-mama's ham hough soup tomorrow. Was it salty or fine? I ask because last time I used the ham stock from a joint I cooked it was very salty without adding any extra.
I think I should have added some extra water which I didn't that time.
It wasnt too salty at all, altho you could tell there was salt of a kind in it,and it certainly didnt need any salt added,(it was lovely with a sprinkle of black pepper tho),think this will be a regular over the winter,so so easy and cheap, the ham hough was £1.74,and yielded lots of meat, next time il add more lentils and water,my SC is 4.5L,but id only filled it just over 1/2 way,i think for a few extra lentils and some more grated carrot i couldve got double the portion.
