i love slow cooking as there is only the 2 of us i ALWAYS make enough for 4 so i can put another days meal in the freezer. we've got 3 days worth in the freezer now and i've used it 3 times since sun lol
  • I had a whole chicken in mine last night with carrot, leek, red onion, garlic and stock. Was cooked and moist when I woke up this morning. Will just roast off the veg tonight and use the stock for gravy on the chicken.

Right gone for a throw it all together mix today, including two tins of tomatoes, 1 packet of passata, some vegtable sotck, garlic (puree) and courgette, cauliflour, butternut squash, onion and mushrooms, with chicken. Ohh and some chilli flakes. I have no idea what its going to taste like, will try it when I get home see if it needs anything extra.

yummy. Just Eating some more now for lunch after having some with garlic bread last night.

Its like a tasty chicken ratatoue!

Now was wondering if anyone could help with a creamy low fat vegtable soup recipe that could be done in the slow cooker, as I am thinkin might start to have soup for lunch now. Its been ages since I made soup and just wondered if anyone had a good low fat one I could copy. I had Baxters and Morrisons fresh Country Vegtable? last winter, but this year want to make my own. Thanks

    Hello slow cooker chefs,

    IResult : Bland Bland Bland....

Please could someone tell me where I am going wrong.

    Thanks

    Hi Zootoxin

Take a read of the link posted by Pawpaws
    http://themerlinmenu.blogspot.com/2008/10/crockpot-guiness-beef-stew.html

He talks about seasoning (copied below taken from link above)

Here's why, we taste it, at the end of the cooking cycle, and it will taste bland and obviously needs salt. So pour about a teaspoon of salt into it. But here's what a lot of people do. They wait about 5 - 10 minutes, taste it again, and it's still bland, so they salt it again, and later do the same thing, and on and on.

The fact is, once you salt, it takes about 20 minutes for the salt to completely melt, and stirring, to totally distribute the taste so you have an accurate measure. You see what I'm saying?

    Hi!
Just gt a slow cooker, and I was wondering if anyone knew about cooking with Quorn instead of chicken?

Any hints and tips greatly appreciated (have looked through thread but nothing jumped out)!

    Thanks!

Ive used Quorn sausages in mine, but no other quorn products. Did a sausage casserole, and pre-fried the sausages.

Thanks - did you leave the Quorn sausages in for the same length of time as real ones?

  • hi,
I only cook vegi meals in my slow cooker! Sausage casserole works a treat with vegi sausages, i pop them in frozen and they are ready for tea, usually put on my slow cooker about 9-9.30 and cook until 4.30 then leave on warm.
    1 tin of baked beans
    1 tin chopped tomatoes
    1 chopped onion
    little vege stock
    celery sticks chopped
    carrots chopped
    vegi sausages

or you could cheat with a sausage casserole cook in sauce then add some fresh veg and a little stock or chopped tomatoes

    Today I have in mine:
    I jar tesco chilli sauce
    bag quorn mince
    tin kidney beans
    finely diced vegetables
a little extra water to rinse around jar

thats been in cooking since 9.30 and is really smelling delicious!

You can make currys with the quorn chunks, either make you own sauce with some chopped tomatoes, curry paste.powder, or buy a 4p tin of curry sauce, 1 tin chopped tomatoes and then some chopped vegetables. mix all together with the quorn chunks and leave cooking for the day!

    Hope this helps!
