In my slow cooker today...

Was my first time for chicken in slow cooker, my sister does it all the time (she is probably reading this now wanting some credit for the technique!) so here is what I did...
First I stuffed chicken with onion and garlic, then placed in s/cooker
Then layed lemon slices on top
Then I switched on low at about 10am
Keep draining off fat (use lid to hold chicken in place)
I took out at about 6.30 with 2 fish slices (meat very tender - legs may fall out) then rested in tinfoil for a bit.
(Lemon slices fell to bottom of s/cooker after first drain, but I just left them there, they gave the chicken a lovely smell and taste)
If anyone does this differently would love some ideas for next time.0 -
Hi all
I've been on the site many times but this is my 1st post as you've all inspired me and I've finally bought a slow cooker. 1st meal cooking (hopefully) as I type (fingers crossed). Put loads of veg and potatoes in with a hanful of pearl barley and some lamb chops / neck etc on top. Not sure if I've put enough liquid in though as only added about a mug full after reading the posts and it's quite a big pot.
Will let you know how it turned out
Good luck! And Welcome! There are a few threads about a full chicken , i'll have a look now.
Whole chicken in the slow cooker
Chicken stock in the SCA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Does anybody have any other idea's that I can do with Chicken pieces?
They are on the bone like thighs and drumsticks. (might not use the drumsticks this time)
I usually do a chicken casserole or with a tomatoey sauce like spanish chicken. I just really fancy trying something different.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance!0 -

Pork neck steaks with 1/2 tin tomatoes, some water, carrot, celery, onion and a stock cube. I served the steaks with veg and crispy potato chunks (not HM
) and even DS2 ate well :j.
I didn't need much gravy with the meat, so I blended it, mixed in 1/2 tub of cream cheese (needed using up) and some more seasoning, and it's made a great cooking sauce for a pasta bake, which we'll have tomorrow.
I've only had this slow cooker for a few weeks and I'm still learning, but I was so pleased with tonight's result, that I wanted to share it.0 -
Someone gave us 4 pheasants, and I know they are so dry if you roast them, so we cut out just the crowns and I popped them in the SC with half a tin of toms, onion and a bovril cube.
Cooked on high for about 3-4 hours then turned down to auto for a few more hours. ALL the meat fell off the bone by the time they were done, so I have a BIG pile of almost succulent pheasant! We used some for a curry stir fry with cous cous, some will stay in the fridge for sarnies with tomato relish, the rest will make at least 10 pies, and the small bits will make mince.
There was also some for the dog to eat, and a pint or two of 'stock' or juice which I'll freeze to make a ragu type sauce at some future time....
All in all, a good SC day''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -

Hi I've been looking thru this thread for a couple of days (mouth watering!). So I've come to realise that I CAN do so many other things in my Slow Cooker, apart from stews (the only thing I have made so far!)
I am being given a couple of pheasants next week and don't know what to do with them.... I have seen a couple of people on here saying that they have pheasant casserole in the SC today but I can't find any details of what's in it.
Someone said that they have two pheasants on a bed of carrotts, onion, bacon, red wine, herbs and garlic, which sounds nice but how much wine goes in? Do I have to put water in it too? (Hope I don't sound too thick - but I've REALLY not got a clue!!)
Can anyone help me please?!
Thank you in anticipation!0
