Oh! I hope it doesnt make me ill Although if I remember correctly I did just under an hour on High the 5 hours on low so effectively = to 7 hours.
I will be heating it up in the microwave when I get home from work hmmm, maybe I should just bin it??
Can't understand why its so bland though.0 -

It doesn't work like that the first hour is mostly spent on getting the ingredients up to temp if mine is anything to go by.
Others will chime in with suggestions as to flavouring, sorry no suggestions as I haven't cooked it.0 -
Right gone for a throw it all together mix today, including two tins of tomatoes, 1 packet of passata, some vegtable sotck, garlic (puree) and courgette, cauliflour, butternut squash, onion and mushrooms, with chicken. Ohh and some chilli flakes. I have no idea what its going to taste like, will try it when I get home see if it needs anything extra.Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! Zoo.... ups and downs of cooking in the SC. eh! I am still learning myself but would say you did not cook it for long enough.
Beef in brow ale is something like what you cooked and the book says 7 - 9 hours on low.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

I have it set to come on 1 hour before I get home to warm up.
Do you think I should bin it?0 -
Giving this a go for the first time.
6oz self-raising flour
a pinch of salt
3oz shredded suet
pck of bacon pieces
1 onion diced
1 cooking apple(precooked from freezer)
marg to greese pudding bowl
Made up suet pastry and lined pudding bowl
Mix bacon, onion and apple together for filling
Suet pastry lid .
Cover securely with greased foil and stand the basen in SC.
Pour round sufficient water to come 1/2 way up the basen side.
Cover and cook on HIGH for 6 -8 hours.
We have just finnished our meal and washed up. I just wanted to tell everyone Oh and I both rated the Bacon and Apple Pudding with a 5***** , it was excellent. We ate the pudding with a jacket potatoe. Would def. cook this again. Just of interest - the pudding servies 4-6 people. The bacon pieces cost just £1.13 from Asda.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Quick reply zoo...I think.... if it has cooked for 5 hours and you have the meal again in the SC today you can count 1/2 as cooking time and the first 1/2 hour as heating up time. so when you get home the meal will have had 5 & 1/2 hours cooking time in total - you are going to need at least another 2 hours on LOW. I would be tempted to transfer to a casserole dish and put in a pre heated oven when you get home to speed things up.
May be 1/2 hour in a hot oven would be enough?
I would try and eat the meal and not bin it as beef costs quite a lot and it would not be the MSE way.
I hope I am helping as although I have cooked for years have only had a SC since September and still a novice to this.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
