Funky... I am not to sure about prawns in the SC. My book says although it remains its shape during SC it can dry out and toughen if cooked for to long.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

Chicken breasts and Asdas SP Sweet & Sour Sauce will be served with egg noodles - and as I have some beansprouts & spring onions left over these might get turned into something that resembles chow mein noodle (ha!! i wish!)

    hi all
i have a bag of prawns that i wanted to cook in my slowcooker, i have an onion some mushrooms rice peas and a jar of chinese curry sauce. would that be ok to chuck in all together? would i need to add water etc also do i cook it on low or high and for how long as i have read that prawns dont take as long to cook as other meats in the slow cooker. thanks for reading. xxx

prawns takes seconds to cook (and even fewer seconds to overcook and become rubbery), so I personally wouldn't cook it in the SC with the rest of the stuff. maybe pop them in just for the last few mins? or to be safe, how about precooking them on the stove so you know they are not overcooked and add them in as you dish out? they are cooked once they change colour. they are tasty on their own anyway so wouldn't need to absorb any flavours from the curry to be nice. . I love prawns

i'm on weight watchers at the moment so have done a couple of simple dishes in the last couple of days.

on sun we had beef in ale casserole with jacket potato.

    400g braising steak pieces
    onions
    carrots
    celery
cheated with a pack of asda beef in ale mix
    and enough water to cover

cooked on high for 5hrs and low for another hr to thicken the sauce with some cornflour.
when i make it again i'm going to have it on low for 5hrs cause most of the beef broke up.

yesterday i made chicken with pineapple
either 4 chicken portions or 400g chicken pieces
    onion
    celery
    carrot
    tin of pineapple
    water enough to cover
cooked on high for 9hrs  big mistake as i used chicken portions and it totally fell off the bone lol so will be putting it on low next time. by the time i realised i had already left for work lol

anyone realised i'm a starter lol does anyone else just chuck everything in (i.e raw meat). i have never sealed anything before.

I have a beef stew in mine, with lots of pearl barley and veggies. I love pearl barley, and it makes it thicker which is how I like it. YUmmy!

I agree with you. I especially like it in lamb casseroles and scotch broth that I make using a left over lamb bone and bits. I also occasionally add a spoonful to a beef casserole.

I also love most of the pulses and use them in all my slow cooker concoctions. Tomorrow I'm planning a chicken curry using yellow split peas, lentils and chick peas.

Nothing in today, but yesterday had lamb steaks, onion, mushrooms, beef oxo cube, pepper, mixed herbs, celery and served with crusty bread from breadmaker - was delicious, supposed to last for 2 days but didn't for obvious reasons. Would serve next time with mash or roast pots rather than bread though.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
