    hi there

i have to answer this one!!!!! LOL
if you have a look at my recent posts (page 176/177--i think), i cooked a pork joint in apple juice with apples, onions, mushrooms.
it turned out lovely, fussey oh and dd loved it (both had 2nds).
put veg in bottom, then meat on top, i put 1 liter of juice in and cooked on low for about 6 hours.
you can put just a little juice in if you wish. the meat and veg had a sweet taste, not too much though.
served with jacket potatoe. yum yum

Replace the apple juice with zider mmmmmmmmm

Looking for some help with a pork casserole it's the only meat DH eats trouble is he is SO fussy he doesn't like veg (or tomatoes unless it's just a hint), he will eat potatoes, onions, leeks, mushrooms and that's about it  I realise my options are very limited but as the list of ingredients are a bit bland I'm asking for help to liven them up:D

I used wine with mine, and it tasted nice; see here. I won't bother with juice next time, as cider or just wine, would have been better.
  • Using my sc for the first time today. I have braising steak, onions, mushrooms and carrots with water and bisto, and a splash of worcester sauce in it. Its smelling nice and I had to have a prod and it'll be lovely and falling to bits by teatime. May add a touch of tomato puree later. Theres loads and theres only myself and dd so we are having it as it is with mash for tea, I may mince some for sheperds pie and curry some of it and then pop the rest in the freezer.

For your sized slow cooker you should be fine. Hope you put it on low!

thanks - my mind is a little more at rest now!! yes I put it on low!
  • making vegetable soup with diced carrots and swede, chopped onion, diced potato, shredded celery (really fine cos i don't actually like it, but bought some yesterday to force myself to use it!!), a carton of passata and two jellified vegetable stock pots.... might end up turning it into a minestrone with a tin of value kidney beans and a handful of pasta shapes when almost cooked
