Are you cooking the meatballs in the SC? Do you brown in the pan first or just add to SC with the sauce?

Straight in the slow cooker on top of the ready warmed sauce.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.
  • I got 4 YS chicken quarters today and want to cook them in SC before portioning and freezing them. I don't really want to skin and bone them until they are cooked and was wondering whether to put veges and stock in with them or just a bit of water. I'll be doing them tomorrow night (BB date tomorrow) and wondered if anyone has any suggestions please?
    Thankyou.

The replacement lid for my SC turned up today! Now I can't decide what I am going to make in it first.......:-)

  • Rolled brisket of beef on a bed of chunked onions and potatoes, carrots and mushrooms, with a squeeze of tomato puree, worcester sauce, a couple of oxo cubes. No wine open, only a couple of cans of lager in the fridge, so nothing to really lift it. I didn't brown anything first, just threw it all in and cooked on low for 11 hours. I thought it was delicious, DD17 declined as she won't eat joined-up meat, DD23+bf had seconds and there is enough left for one lunch tomorrow.

I'm not getting the seasoning right, DD declared it the kind of 'bland stodge' that may have a place in the winter meal plan but she can't bear it more than once a week. She prefers light zizzy stir-fries with Thai or Japanese influence, and buys the expensive ingredients for these herself.

Gammon joints and turkey drumsticks still to be tried, I'm going to do the gammon in cola, love the sound of that, and will curry the turkey.

champys, where you the one who had an accident with the lid, because ever since I read that I get nervous everytime I pick mine up! lol

I got the Chicken Casserole in today with Chicken and Veg from waitrose offer, (had some vouchers to spend) with some extra veg I had knocking around, and some chicken gravy. Will give it a taste when I get in see if it needs some va va voom!

Urm and the rest of the vegtable curry for lunch! Lucky me.

Also if I went to the Butchers to get some cheap beef for beef in ale later in the week, what would be a good cut to ask for that would cook nicely in the sc? I hear a lot about skirt, but its not a cut I am familiar with, also I like my meat quite lean.
Debt free since July 2013! Woo hoo! The bank actually laughed when I said I have come in to cancel my overdraft.

I am having chilli for tea that was cooked in the SC and then frozen in a batch cook. This afternoon I am baking potatoes in the oven to go with it along with a fruit cake.
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
    Spring begins on 21st March.

  • Julie - theres a few nice ones on Amazon that you can browse and see what you fancy. I got one but I have to say I've never used it LOL - I just do potluck!

Pammie - what is the difference between a gammon joint and a bacon joint? I must say I don't know what the difference is?
