  • Today i have brasing steak, potatoes, leek, swede, carrot, onion and garlic with some stock and also some old stock I had frozen from previous SC stew.
  • have to share what i made yesterday

    Steak bolognaise
i browned the meat the night before and also prepared the onions and herbs then.

i had two packs of stewing steak (400g each)
    2 onions sliced
    italian herb
    3 x beef oxo cubes
    1 tin toms
    chopped pepper
    water

i layered the onions then the herbs, the meat on top of that, then the tinned toms, the peppers, added enough water to cover and left on low for 8 ours then had it turned up to hi for 1.5 hours,
it was lush and scrummy served as a bake with gnocchi

i cooked the gnocchi, strained and put in an oven dish, added the SB and mixed, added grated cheese on top and baked for 10 mins,

this served 3 adults (two very hungry men and and a slightly hungry me)
and i could have served up less but it was too yummy!

there was enough left to freeze for spud toppings for two :)

To those who cook sausage casserole in their sc, do you cook the sausages first or put them in raw?

I brown the sausages while chopping all the veg - I don't bother browning the veg anymore though just bung in with the sausages on top & any gravy or tinned toms etc

  • Oh i'm really annoyed with myself forgot to get the chicken out of the freezer last night was going to do a curry for tonight in the slow cooker - now waiting for it to defrost and will have to do it the old way on the hob and in the oven - ohh the electric!!!!!!! - oh the taste!!!!!!!!! - what a waste!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ..
In the end yesterday we had pasta with leftovers for dinner, (courgettes, peppers, some ham that needed eating, cheese all mixed together), as the chicken still was not defrosted - so in my slow cooker today I have - Chicken Curry - Yay!!!!

Try ebay too, just type in your postcode in the Distance box and how many miles you are willing to travel.

I managed to get an as new decent model microwave from someone who lived about half a mile away by doing this.

You may be lucky and get someone who had two bought them for a wedding present or something.

    ;)
  • Yesterday in the SC I made tomato based pasta sauce, enough for tea tonight for both of us and froze 4 more portions.

Today after cutting up a whole chicken, I put the carcass in with lots of onions, celery and carrots. A bit of garlic, marjoram, rosemary, salt and white pepper. It's full nearly to the top so will have lots of soup. Good for this kind of weather.
    Take the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
    Just take the first step.
