I dont have a slow cooker yet but after reading all these lovely recipes I am definately getting one!!!!!
plus I love the thought of getting in from work and my dinner is ready!!!!!!!

I have seen one in argos (cookworks) for under £10 - does anyone have this one? is it any good?!?

Double check the size as some are only small so you woudn't be able to cook a whole chicken in it.
  • I have a tiny slow cooker enough for 2 people (lost the book it came with), mum gave it to me as a present and now im getting used to it, i want a bigger one!! I could'nt get a whole chicken in it but i would love to as i hate using the oven to cook one and often buy a ready cooked chicken. I am the only meat eater in the house, hubby is veggie which makes it difficult as he notices how my food looks and smells, hes now asking me to do a veggie meal for him!! . So Saturday i am going to make a vegtable soup and puree it down :)

  • I'm trying Carribean chicken in mine today as it has such great reviews on here, except when I put it in the SC I had forgotten to take out the chocolate bars that were in it and had to fish them out of the cooker afterwards! now they are in the fridge to reharden lol!

:rotfl: but am intrigued ... why was the chocolate in the slow cooker in the first place and not in your tummy?

I have seen 2 in argos I fancy (both 3.5ltr) - one is tall and deep the other shallower and oval - which would be the best one to get?!?! I live alone so rarely cook a whole chicken but quite often buy the drumsticks/thighs.
  • Probably because it would have been in someone else's tummy if she didn't hide it. Would in my house anyway. :p

I prefer the oval shape because a lamb joint and a chicken fit in much better. I think the bigger you get the better because then you can bulk cook and freeze. I have the 4.5L oval sc from Lakeland but I have seen a 3.5L oval sc in Wilkinsons for 9.99 that I am thinking of buying for one of my sons.
  • Hi all. I am sorry to hijack your thread but I thought this would be the best place. I had to replace my SC yesterday as my children had left it on the hob, switched the hob on and melted the dial. This means that I have a perfectly good POT and LID going begging if anyone had broken theirs... it was a cookworks oval one. Please let me know if this would be of use to anyone.
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(
  • today have got in borlotti beans that i had soaked then frozen with two diced courgettes, a tin of condensed lowfat chicken soup, some diced potatoes, a couple of chicken stock cubes, a couple of tablespoons of dried herbs, some seasoning and some milk...
  • My chicken casserole was very tasty, as I have the smallest SC i have 2 very good sized portions to freeze later. Saw a 5.5l Breville one in Sainsburys for just under 24quid...got to convince hubby for another small freezer and bigger SC lolol
