Home made baked beans but despite being on since this morning they are still hard  I shall add some more liquid and keep the slow cooker on for a while longer! Maybe they will be edible by tomorrow!

Don't give up, they'll get there. I did some black eyed peas in my SC, and I turned them up high for a couple of hours before serving, because they didn't seem done, and they were slightly overcooked (although nobody noticed!).

Have you put salt in them? I read somewhere that if you do, pulses don't soften - or maybe its just the skins don't

would a silicone cake tin work? They ahve them in Aldi sometimes cheaply.
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.

Hi all, I am moving house in 9 days (fingers crossed) and need to start being more frugal particulalrly with the food shopping. I love my slow cooker and use it a fair bit but would like to use it more. Is there an index of slow cooker recipes, I have searched but cannot find a specific list.
I would love to try baking a cake in it but don't know where to start any hints and tips or links would be greatfully appreciated. Dawn

Doing really great with my SC. On Sunday I did shoulder of pork and it was beautiful, shame i had to make Bisto gravy for it but I will never go back to roasting meat in the oven now.

Just a little question. Plan on doing chilli-con-carne tomorrow. Would I put kidney beans in from the very start or wait til last hour :D
    Thanks in advance.
Just to win anything would be great!!

I always put mine in at the beginning. They soak up all the lovely chilli flavours.

hello everyone! Just got a slow cooker and have been reading so many threads - feel a bit overwhelmed and don't know where to start! I have:

    one onion
    stewing steak

only other veg I've got in are frozen peas and peppers & some fresh potatoes

I have lots of storecupboard ingredients, red wine, tinned tomatoes, herbs, worcestershire sauce, stock cubes etc...

Could someone recommend anything with the above? Just want to try it out but not sure about it with so few veg.

Thanks from a slow cooker novice :)

    too many comps..not enough time!
