You will be okay with beef but it may go stringy if you cook it for to long.

Hi all...is it worth me getting a slow cooker as im a vegetarian and also can quorn be cooked in a sc?
I don't know about quorn, but I shouldn't see why not .. and I'm cooking a veggie curry in mine as we speak. Lots of leftover vegetables that I couldn't work out an alternative use for!

  • I've got a gammon shank in mine today (£1.49 in Morrison's on Sat) - I meant to check yesterday if it was salted and soak it if it was...but I forgot and was in a mad rush this morning so just bunged it in on Auto setting with a drop of water in the bottom - hope it will be OK!

I've got some stewing meat in mine. I'm trying to make potted meat. Later I will put my beans in, they've been soaking since 7 this morning.
  • is there a PMSC (poor mans slow cooker?) - ie, what time/temp would i need to do a dish in a normal oven?

A 7-8 hour recipe in slow cooker would be about 3 hours in a normal oven at 150c. This is the ratio I use to convert normal recipe's to slow cooker. You may need to add a bit more liquid.

This won't apply to cooking a whole chicken which you would just cook normally anyway.

Hi I'm new to the world of slow cookers, so far have just managed a stew....

Please could someone just clarify, is it possible to put the stuff in cold or do you have to heat it first? Also, if I wanted to do a whole chicken or joint of meat how much liquid would need to be added and how long would it need to cook for?

    Thanks!
  • I am cooking lentil soup in my sc at the moment but would like to know if it is possible to do pasta bakes in it? I am new to this as I have had my sc for 1 week now think it is great and you all have wonderful ideas for recipies.
